Hi,

I have a USB-UIRT that I purchased so that I could learn the codes off my set top box. I was able to learn the codes off of the remote. But obviously I can't use that remote to control GB-PVR because it'll change channels both at the STB and on the program. I have the Hauppauge 45 button remote that I could use. But I can't figure out a way to send the STB commands from the 45 button remote.

I've been trying to figure this out but so far the only way I can see this working is to use a 3rd party solution such as HIP (it's free) to map the buttons to the correct commands for the STB? Is this correct? Or is there something else I can do in GB-PVR so that I can use my Hauppauge remote to send out the STB commands? Sorry for the noob questions... but maybe someone can help me out. Thanks!

What you probably need to do is get an IR Blaster, this will take care of sending out the codes to the set top box for you. You could then use your 45 button hauppauge to control GBPVR.

The USB-UIRT can send out commands to the STB, but doesn't come with any software. I have the PVR150 card and it came with an IR blaster but it doesn't work with the STB I have.

If anyone else is doing something similar, what software are you guys running? I see that there is the USB-UIRT support within GB-PVR but I don't think it supports what I'm trying to do?

Edit:

I just realized that there are two places to check. Within the Capture Sources tab and the DVD & Remote tab. I only checked the Capture Sources tab. I'll check it again tonight when I get back from work.

You should be able to set the remote type to 'USB-UIRT' in the config app, then learn the Hauppauge remote buttons. This should allow you to control GB-PVR from the Hauppauge remove via the USB-UIRT.

You can also set the capture source to use the USB-UIRT as the IR Blaster, and learn whatever codes you need to send to control your set top box.

thanks for your reply sub...

i ended up getting it to work but not quite the way you suggested. i wanted to use the USB-UIRT for both sending and receiving, but it seemed like it would be a little complicated.

i got it to work by using the hauppauge IR software (and leaving it on the default hauppauge remote under the dvd and remote tab) and blaster to receive and then used the USB-UIRT to transmit the signal to the STB. i was able to learn the channels within GB-PVR (works great!) and i've tested it all weekend. everything looks great! i'm gonna try your suggestions after i record my favorite shows tomorrow =P
