I have seen a couple of odd issues with recording, wondering if there any thoughts on these(note I have two analog tuners, an HVR-1600 and PVR-150):

-I started a manual record while watching a show. I then decided I would record the show directly after the current one by setting the record in the program guide. The second show did record however it didn't start recording until ~10 mins after the show started(I started the manual record on the previous show with ~30 mins left in it). And the manual recorded show did not have the 10 mins of missing video from the second record. It just wasn't there.
-I was running low on HD space(~1GB left) and I had the last 5 mins of a show cut off. Is there some min amt of hd space I have to have left in order for the recording to work properly?

Nothing springs to mind, but post the logs and I'll see if I can see anything obvious.

No, there no minimum, but when it runs out of disk, its all over...
