Poor quality viewing xvid in gbpvr

if you do figure it out which im sure you will post what was causing it
it will help others in the future
try turning off things like hardware acceleration and antiscopic filtering (or what ever its called)
what have you installed lately or un installed ?
check the seeting as compared to other machine
you may need to remove other codecs it may be using

It'll come down to either the video decoder or video renderer you're using.

With xvid playback in GB-PVR you dont get the choice of what decoder is used. It'll let directshow choose. Try switching to the Overlay renderer instead of VMR, since this is probably what WMP is using (along with same decoder).

I tried Overlay Manager and it fixed the quality issues. Anyone know why vmr doesn't work very well? Also when using overlay, and showing a widescreen video the bars above and below aren't very black, when the video goes black you can really tell, is there a fix for that.

This is most likely related to the quality of your video card or it's drivers. Some card are just better than others at VMR.

Sorry, I dont know about this one. This isnt something GB-PVR controls.

you can change the blackness of the bars in your desktop settings
make sure its only the desk top settings you are adjusting or you will make your video dark aswell then you will have another problem

one more thing i use overlay manager (Gbpvr config) but use hardware acceleration turned on i find this the best setting then while video is playing adjust the settings in the invidia video properties(icon appears in taskbar once video has started) in there i turn on vmr once you have the video running.
I am unsure what hardware /software combination you have
I played arround with the vmr settings in gbpvr but could never get a smooth picture once you fast forward or rewind just wasnt stable
so if you have an invidia card and the nvidia pure video decoder these might be the settings for you

heres my settings
gbpvr config

audio renderer: system default

video renderer : overlay manager

save then open the from icon in task bar once you are playing the video
nvidia decoder properties
display type:Anomorphic/rawaspect (i find best for all round)

harware acceleration on

deinterlace i use "film "(but depends on what your playing)

deinterlace mode " Display fields seperately "

enhanced nView support : "prefer VMR9"

may help may not but give it a go

Ok, i think everything is fixed now. My video card has issues, when i installed win xp, the latest driver from nvidia wouldn't install(GeForce FX 5200), so I had to go to the driver archive, tried three different drives until I got one that worked(from March 05 i think). So i went to evga to see if there was a bios update or anything i could do and they showed driver 93.71 was the recommended driver whereas nvidia's is 94.24. Anyway 93.71 worked and vmr9 now works correctly. Thanks everyone for your help.
