Player Stops Responding

I'm experiencing a problem where the client stops responding after I start watching a recorded show. The video and audio continue to play without a hitch, but I cannot get the OSD to pull up to rewind or fast forward. I've tried using different video decoders and different renderers, and they all exhibit the same behavior. I have to resort to using the Task Manager to kill the process. I'm using a server/client setup, and the same thing happens regardless of if I use streaming or file sharing mode. If I view the recording by going through EWA, WMP plays the file without problems. The logs are attached.

I'm not really sure. There isnt an obvious cause in your logs.

One funny thing that might be related though. It seems you've selected to use the ffdshow decoder, but I dont think it has MPEG2 decoding enabled in the ffdshow settings, so the system ends up adding an additional decoder (so you end up with both in the playback graph). Try selecting a different decoder to see if it helps.

Good point, mpeg2 decoding is disabled in the ffdshow. I used another codec, but it still does the same thing. I can't get video to play in the streaming mode. In file sharing mode, any combination of renderers and audio/video decoders still produces the same issue. Isn't anyone else having this problem? :confused:

I missed the bit about it being a client. Try it again in streaming mode, then zip and attach the client and server logs.

I assume you can play file copied locally to the machine?

Well, I've spent a few hours trying different possibilities, but I've still yet to figure out what's causing this.

- Using the Performance logs on the server side, there is no unusual activity network-wise or CPU-wise when the client GB-PVR app stops responding. This narrows down the problem to a client-issue and not a "talking between computers" issue.

- There is nothing unusual at the GB-PVR log level in any of the generated log files (using Debug logging). When client stops responding (it usually lasts 15-45 seconds at a time), nothing is logged in the logs. When the client resumes responding and I generate activity (move mouse to display OSD, etc), the logs notate that as if nothing was wrong.

- I've disabled all non-essential software including the antivirus software. It has not helped.

Sub, when I play the file locally, there are no problems. I've tried increasing the gbpvr.exe task's priority under Task Manager, but I don't think this has made much of (if any) a difference.

I am now running under Streaming mode. I don't know what I changed, but I get 2-4fps with File Sharing mode. Streaming seems to work in real-time. The not-responding problem happened in file sharing mode too, so I don't believe it is related to the mode of client/server, though I could be wrong.

I'll continue to try different things, but it doesn't look promising..

So it works in streaming mode? This is pretty much the only mode I test, since this is the way I use it.

The problem seems to get better after viewing the program for a few minutes without trying to "interrupt" it. I've still only been testing it on the laptop and haven't really used it to watch an actual show, so I can't really speak for that yet. I'll come back to this thread after I run it connected to my TV for a week or so.. thanks.
