I recently swapped a 400W in my 1.2GHz, 4 Hard Drive, 2 Optical Drive, USB Card, Video Card, Network Card, Sound Card, PVR150-Card, PIII 512MB Ram GBPVR system, for a newer (quieter) 300W one I had spare. I no longer have the old one.

I am not sure if the reason was the swap, but if I now open say 5~6 GBPVR forums Tabs in IE, Process Explorer gets stuck on 100% CPU utilisation. I can't find a definitive google answer although there is some suggestion that WYSIWYG forums use a lot of Java and CPU?

Should 300W be OK for this system? I also have a USB-UIRT, USB Mouse and KB, 2xUSB Hubs (1 Powered, 1 not).

My guess is 300 watts is plenty. Given the CPU uses say 75 watts, and the drives use 20 watts (check this that's from memory), there is a lot to spare. Each USB can use 2.5 watts so there just isn't that much power there. That said the faster the clock the more power a system will use but your system isn't really running that fast so unless you experience crashes or data errors, I would expect your PS will be fine.

I'm with stustu about adding stuff. Having said that I actually tried FireFox when I first came across the issue ... it was a bit better, but still used quite a bit of CPU.. hence I was looking for other possible reasons ...

a) FF is not crap Wink
b) the issue is not adding FF, it's removing IE Wink If you could do that, then you wouldn't have added stuff, you would have replaced stuff Smile
