How do I connect to a TV correctly?

Hi,

I'm a newbie and I think GBPVR is an excellent bit of software. I'm slowly working through the config process and I have got it working fine on my monitor, but I am unsure how to connect to a TV correctly. I have read the wiki documentation and read through the forum and I can't seem to find a guide on how to connect to a TV.

I have a hauppauge Nova-T and a Nvidia GeForce 6200 with a TV out connector. I have successfully connected the audio out on my sound card (soundblaster live) and TV out to a Scart adaptor which goes to my External scart socket on my 32" widescreen CRT TV.

I do not know which settings to change from the Nvidia control panel - screen res, dual or clone, overlay ect...? I got the clone feature to work (dual wouldn't work) but the quality wasn't great and some panels, for example the TV programme info weren't shown, only the TV picture was displayed....:confused:

you have to go single display really (well for best results on a tv)
at least make the tv the primary display
start with the screen resolution size make it as small as your card will allow ie 800x600 or less (640x480 is the one that should show everything)
UNder nView Display settings >device settings(bootom right corner)>select tv format>480P EDtv or 480i SDtv
(start with these settings you may be able to increase them i do not know what tv you have but if you are only using a scart plug you probabaly wont gain anything going any higher)

EDIT: make sure your zoom overlay is as far left as it can be to bigin with you can tweak later if you want

ive also changed where the volume bar is to under the progress bar in the skin config file as i found to get the best pic i had to cut the top of the screen off which meant there was no volume bar or worse i could see half of it
I also made it bigger
you can add settings to the config file to fine tune it to your tv so you can get the text shown without losing to much screen
Try pressing F7 while playing video( if you havnt already )

(video cards have come a long way in outputting to tvs but every tv is different so its just a matter of making it look right for you and your tv)
Plus i find here in new zealand they are changing to wide screen.
Some shows are, some show arnt and even between tv stations they out put wide screen different so its getting worse not better from that side

as you in the uk, you should make sure that your resolution is 720x576.

well it depends on the tv i have a wide screen panasonic and if put it 720x576 i miss half the picture its all about letting the computer scale the picture to what best suits your tv not always about getting the most pixels on the screen
by getting the computer to scale the picture you will get the best picture i believe
this is the main reason i use a pc to watch dvd on my projector it can do the scaling if need be rather than the projector having to do it (or tv for that matter)

depends on the video standard you are using(ie cable from computer to tv)

Just remembered the other reason i didnt use 720x576 it flickered drove me nuts
so yeah what you think should be the best is not always
so try them all

Ditto! but this res works fine for me, no missing picture.

The key bit (for the OP's benefit) is the x576 as this ensures that there is one pixel for every scan line on PAL. (480 on NTSC)

will be replacing my crt soon anyway with a lcd now that the refresh rates are up where they should be
then it will be dvi (hdmi) all the way and probably a whole lot more resizing problems :eek:
