Hi,

I have been using GBPVR for around 2 weeks now and its been awesome so far. Much better than any alternative there is out there (I have tried both commercial and freeware).

Anyway, I have the latest version all set up and working except for one issue that is rather annoying. It happens when I first boot windows and choose LiveTV. It just sits there doing nothing (The tray icon is green though) and after around 20 - 30 secconds TV finally comes up. Now If I quit GBPVR and start it again there is no delay. Even when I close the GBPVRService and restart that there is still no delay. Its only after a fresh reboot. I have also waited 2 - 3 minutes before starting GBPVR to see if it was Windows loading a few services in the background but nothing, still the delay. I have even turned off EPG updates as I initially thought it was the EPG update causing the delay but still the same problem.

I am using GBPVR on a 2.4GHz P4, 512MB Ram, 40GB HDD, NV6200 GFX, Technisat Skystar2 with BDA Drivers.

What do you think could be the problem? Thanks in advance...

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Its something to do with the combination of directshow filters installed on your machine. The big delay occurs when your system tries to "render" the graph. This is basically when directshow tries to find the appropriate decoders to use for playing this stream.

Unfortunately it can be difficult to identify which decoder/filter is causing this. Some users have resolved this type of issue by uninstalling unused decoders.

Hey,

I have only the single ffdshow codec pack installed. Apart from that there is nothing else.

Would you reccomend a better codec that could possibly eliminate the delay. Which codec would you use?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Its one of the decoder/filters/codecs on your machine. Maybe ffdshow, maybe some other filter you're not aware of, from some other app.

I use the Cyberlink video decoder. I should point out though, it may not be a video decoder causing this. It could be someother type of filter.

Im not sure what else there could be, Its a fresh install of Windows XP which has been stripped down using nLite. I have to install Windows Media Player 11 for GBPVR to work (.Net Framework Exception all the time) but other than that all I have installed is the ffdshow package. I will remove that and see how I go with the Cyberlink package. Thanks.

I wonder if using the stripped down XP install could be doing something to your system? But yes, its a good idea to uninstall ffdshow and try another codec..

also try using a different renderer for video, and even for audio for that matter, and see if that helps.. its worth a shot if the codec change doesn't bear fruit.

Yeah, you could be right. It could be timing out looking for some default directshow filter that isnt being found.

Normally on a clean install of XP, there would be about 50 or 60 directshow filters installed (the number is a wild guess). This nLite install might be missing some critical to BDA.

Hmmm yeah that might actually be the problem. I'll try a full install of Windows XP and just install the Cyberlink Power DVD pack as my default. I'll see how that goes and let you know.
