Has everyone heard of the newly formed organization comprised of MythTV, XMLTV and MacProgGuide guys to provide TV listings for the masses now that Zap2It has stopped providing them?

Check out http://www.easytvdata.org/

Any ideas on what it will be like? I'm sure it will be a pay service, but for a nominal fee. Any more information from anyone here?

Sub, is this the kind of service for which support might be built into GBPVR?

Thanks!

Yes, I intend to support this service in GB-PVR. I was even asked to be on the board, but chose not to for a variety of reasons.

My guess is that nonprofit does not mean the service will be free. Unless they are generating the listings themselves (which I highly doubt), they will have to at least pay someone for the listings. Also, I'm guessing the business model might involve paying (rightfully so) those involved for their work and time, as well as capital investment for necessary equipment.

That being said, I do believe the fee will be nominal. I'm also guessing that the format of the data will be fairly close (if not exact) to what Zap2It was providing. Maybe?

I think it's a good plan. Pay a monthly (?) or yearly (?) fee and get a reliable service. Otherwise, you're subject to scraping formats that are changed every so often to prevent scraping.

My two cents. Know what it's worth? Two cents. Big Grin

It definitely not going to be free. They still need to cover several thousand dollars per month to acquire the listings. They're not creating this organisation to make a profit though, so they will keep the fee as low as they can while still covering the costs.
