Is this something you can download and install evern if you do not have a PVR-150?

So, after trying many things, I decided maybe the problem I am having with dropped frames has to do with the Nvidia Pure Video decoder. After scouring the internet, I found two promising MPEG-2 video decoders:

bitcontrol MPEG-2 Video Decoder v2.1
Elecard MPEG Player V4.5.70713

I installed these on my system, however, when I go to the playback setup screen in GBPVR and try to change the video decoder, the new decoders do not show up. Does GBPVR only list decoders that in "knows" about?

Has anyone else experienced dropped frames in VMR mode using PureVideo and been able to remedy the problem with another decoder? If so, which decoder?

Yes. It gets the known list from the <SupportedDecoders> setting in config.xml.

bitcontrol or elecard decoders are not at all common, so probably not a great choice. The MPV decoder mentioned above is decent, as is the dscaler one, and Cyberlink/Intervideo decoders.

I am not using HD, but my p3 1.2 ghz radeon 9550 was having stuttering problems with PVRx2 on the purevideo decoder.

I switched to the intervideo WinDVD decoder & all is well.

Intervideo does a crappy job with de-interlacing everytime I've tried using it.. DScaler is awesome, so is PureVideo.. and Cyberlink is good too.

Yes, MPV gives smooth playback but the picture quality is crap compared to Purevideo.

Just curious -- what version of the NVidia drivers are you using with your 6600? For my 6200 (AGP), anything later than 93.81 Forceware drivers gives me crappy video playback (using VMR9 Custom). Every time a new beta comes out, I give it a try, but always end up going back to 93.81. FWIW, I'm also using Purevideo decoder. Purevideo with the 93.81 drivers has been my winning combination thus far. I'm running a 3.0Ghz Celeron w/1GB ram (and a PVR150 capture card).

The moral of my story? Newer is NOT necessarily better.. Smile

Good luck...
