I have posted a mini-review with some comments about GBPVR and the Hauppauge HVR 1600 here

http://mvallevand.googlepages.com/HVR1600.html

Note that another tester was not as successful as I was.

Just wanted to thank you for writing this up, it helped me with some basic questions I had. I'm starting to get there with mine - I've got my analog channels in from my Comcast digital cable STB, and I've now gotten a few clear QAM channels (all the locals, plus Food and HGTV).

I'd like to do what you did and spy on my neighbors watching OnDemand stuff. What I'm wondering is whether this programing always comes in on a set block of frequencies, or if it's completely random.

My on-demand shows seem to come in on the same 3 channel blocks, and right now on a spot check there is an unknown movie on each one of them. I definitely have to keep manually checking them all, it is not FIFO.

The reason I "seem" is that to confirm it is only these blocks I'd have to scan and go through each found station many times a day. One of these three blocks I never found during about 25 random scans, but someone mentioned seeing on demand programming on that channel and by regularly seeking using TSReader I was able to start scanning when I knew something was active.
