Thanks for the advice. Tried fse and it didn't seem to help. Can you (or anyone) suggest a reasonably priced ATI AGP card that _should_ fix the problem I'm having? I've got a Radeon 9550 right now.
some other guy got x1600
i wouldnt bother with 9600 or the 9800 i had both of them and they did the same thing you are talking about so i went nvidia got better video but you have to use nvidia decoder
so sub what are your settings decoder for him to try then?
sub Wrote:I didnt do anything special. I'm just using the MPV Decoder, with the default settings and it seems to work well.
So I tried the MPV decoder and it seems to work really well for live tv and recordings. It's eliminated a lot the stuttering I was seeing although I do see some from time to time.
It does not, however, work well with the 720p HD recordings I have. I'm guessing that's because it's not taking advantage of the ATI hardware decoding.
Eventually I'm planning on getting a big lcd tv and then hopefully I'll be able to bump up the refresh rate and maybe all this will go away. What does the quartz fix address? Does it have symptoms similar to what I'm seeing?

True, I'm not using that card for any high def stuff, will most likely require a better card.

To be honest, I dont know what you're seeing and its hard to even guess. It might be related to your soundcard, or something else happening on your on your system, or something else entirely.
Might be worth running perfmon to see if you see any CPU spikes at the time the hiccup occurs.

set the decoder setings for mvp decoder
set interlaced field in output (when you playback hd720p files)
or try changing from auto in the deinterlacing box
hmmm,i think may also be sound related...i'm using onboard sound...which works really well, but isn't a real good one so i'll stick a SBLive in there and see if anything changes...
i've tried everything on this board and still get that hiccup..about every3-4 secs..not exactly rhythmic, it has more when hi motion scenes..
my cpu is under 20% so not that...really is puzzling..no spikes visible..seems like a buffer size problem or may be my ram..i'm running sdr-pc133 ram on it..hehe
but i also get this on all my systems..[8x,ddr2,etc]
i'll be doing a re-install of os soon so will get a chance to do more experimentation, eliminating most OS probs...
will let ya know if that helps..

So in experimenting I've added a pci soundcard (Cmedia Formosa SC3000) I had left over from another machine and added it to my GBPvr box. This addition does not appear to have had any affect on the 'jumpiness'.
In addition to the soundcard, I also bumped my videocard memory from 64mb to 256mb in my bios settings. I've monitored using perfmon and I'm not seeing any spikes while watching tv much less when the 'jumpiness' occurs.
Is there a more scientific way to determine the best video/audio decoder than just trying all combinations? Right now I'm using the Cyberlink (ATI) video decoders and system default for audio. Should I be using something for audio? What does FFDSHOW post-processing do?
I realize that the system I have is by far not a powerhouse, but it doesn't appear that the cpu is the problem, and watching HD content works surprisingly well. I really hesitant to upgrade my machine if I'm not sure what is causing the problems. Please let me know if anyone has anything else I might try.
