Yes.

But I didn't need to change decoders.

Using a Nvidia 6800 with drivers 94.24 set to dual view with my TV as second display

I installed this patch http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=919071

Then set vsync to application controlled as without this I get some tearing.

Running the new interface PVRX2.exe with the -fse option and start on second display.

This gives me smooth playback.

I don't know if that's any help but it works for me.

Thanks for all the replys. I have already tried the MPV decoder as well as Cyberlink/Intervideo with no success. I will definitely give Dscaler5 a try tonight.

I also have a little more information. Sub had previously asked me if I had tried running at a different resolution. My TV only supports 1080i, not 720p, so I changed the effective output resolution to a lower setting (1280 x 768 vs the normal 1920 x 1080) but it did not make any difference. My friend brought over his LCD TV last night so I could try running 720p and I had much better success with this. Almost all of the skipped frames were gone, and this was running without the -fse option.

Does this mean that my 6600 256MB video card is not up to the task of running VMR in 1080i mode? I do not want to update my entire PC, so I am stuck with the AGP interface. What type of card would I need to make sure I can run in this mode with no stutter? Or are my assumptions possibly incorrect?

ktalley Wrote:Just curious -- what version of the NVidia drivers are you using with your 6600? For my 6200 (AGP), anything later than 93.81 Forceware drivers gives me crappy video playback (using VMR9 Custom). Every time a new beta comes out, I give it a try, but always end up going back to 93.81. FWIW, I'm also using Purevideo decoder. Purevideo with the 93.81 drivers has been my winning combination thus far. I'm running a 3.0Ghz Celeron w/1GB ram (and a PVR150 capture card).

Right now I am using the 93.71 drivers with PureVideo 1.02-123.

excellent fix! i was trying to solve that one for a while now, and no wonder i couldn't, it was a M$ thing!
that issue alone kept me away from vmr9..vmr7 doesn't do it..
thanx!

Just a quick update. I have tried a couple more decoders, but PureVideo still seems to provide the best picture. I have also tried all the MS patches that have shown up in the formums, as well as the quartz.dll mod. None of these seemed to have any effect.

As I mentioned before, there seems to be very little stutter when I run in 720p mode versus 1080i (alas, my TV does not support 720!). I also recently found by searching other forums that it is possible to overclock the 6600 display card. I tried this, and on some channels, the stutter seems to have almost disappeared. Other channels it is better, but still exists. Is it possible that different channels broadcast at different fps?

Bitrates can vary between channels broadcasting at the same resolution - some stations compress more than others - so that might be the reason some channels still stutter for you but others don't. If you don't have a direct means to inspect the bitrate of the station - which sometimes changes based on the program - the recording size/duration will give you a good enough indicator.

I asked sub this before:

SuMo Wrote:Sub, is it possible to have a "patch" sticky f.i. in the support dep. Just like the 1.0.8 survival sticky. It would help to see these organized in one topic.

and his answer:

sub Wrote:Thats exactly what I've been doing with any patches I consider important in the '1.0.8 survival guide' thread, including this specific one.

I'm not going to add every patch in there, because often they're minor, or I want people to test them out and provide feedback before I recommend others apply them.
