Permissions... I have UN-checked the "Read only" permission, run ZScedFix.exe getting same errors, then rechecked permissions to find that the Read only bit is again checked. I repeated this several times with the same result: the read only bit gets turned on when I go back to check after what appeared to be a successful 'unsetting' as shown during the "Properties/Attributes/uncheck" procedure.

right click on the Ztools folder, click properties... click the securities tab.

If you don't have it, and your are sure you're using NTFS for your file system, then something has disallowed you to seeing it...

Make sure your user account is selected and then check to see the allowed and denied columns...

We've isolated that it happens when I call the shell statement. I will write another patch to actually log the passed arguments. I can't imagine it changing, but whatever...

I believe it is a security/permission thing that is preventing the programs (happens to ZProcess on Toms computer too) from shelling...

i'm on fat32 so i doubt it's file level security...
if i delete the dump before, it tells me file not found..[duh]
but still same line: 5 error...
what happens on line 5? just the shell process?
yea, logging the args should give a good hint..Smile

This is the first time that I have numbered the lines, so I'm dying to find what is actually happening on line 5 myself.

I just had a brainstorm. Have you both been keeping your Windows up to date? SP2 and all the updates?

I will confirm, when I get close to my code, but I think there's a difference i9n the user32.dll that I and you are using...

Yes, the WinXP SP2 updates are always done as soon as they appear via WIn Update.

Is there a way to cnfirm whether we're all using the same user32.dll ??

Yes, it's NTFS.

When doing r-clk there's a "Sharing and security" choice (among others) and a "Properties" choice. Choosing either gives the same dialog box btw.
I have used both to attempt to unset the "Read only" permission bit.

For clarity -- I do realize you can't be expected to be able to see my screen, a real shortcoming on your part IISSM Smile -- I've attached the the relevant "Properties" dialog boxes from my system...

That's what I'm talking about. You don't have a Securities tab. That may be the symptom right there, or it may be that HP has hidden that feature, or, damn, I can't remember, maybe it's not available with XP Home...
