I am a newbie to the PVR tech.

I have a P4 2.40 Ghz , 1 GB RAM, 64 MB intel onboard video. windows XP MCE

I recently bought Hauppuage HVR 1600. Installed the driver from Hauppauge website instead of the CD.

Installed
* Microsoft .net runtime v2.0
* vcredist_x86
* DirectX 9.0c
* Windows Media Player 10
* K-lite codec pack 3.3.5 full

when i went through setup like it says
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Quick...QuickStart

When I start PVRX2 after few seconds I get a grainy dark grey screen. what I am doing wrong?

Also, does the Hauppauge remote that coms with HVR-1600 work with GBPVR???

Does xp MCE has MPEG2 decoder built-in or should I install something like cyberlink??

Should I install all winTV applications from the CD that came with HVR 1600 or just the updated driver from Hauppuage website enough?

Thanks

Post a screenshot and you logs and I'll take a look.

It should do, but you'll need to click the 'Fix Hauppauge remote settings' button in the config app, then restart the Hauppauge IR software

Not by default. You'd usually have to install your own decoder.

It only needs to driver, but it is sometimes useful to have the Hauppauge software present. (ie, if it cant find any digital channels in GB-PVR, I'll ask you to check it finds them in the Hauppauge software).

Thanks for your comments. I installed K-lite codec pack and is that enough for a MPEG-2 decoding?

I am attaching a screen shot of what happens when i open gbpvr. I don't know how to post log.

I have reformatted the HD, installed xp pro, Microsoft .net runtime v2.0, k-lite codec pack full version, updated my graphic card drivers (I don't have separate card, so i am using only on board which is 64MB)

installed driver for hvr-1600 and IR Remote control application from hauppuage website with the driver for ir. did not install the IR Blaster setup program ( i have only OTA)

installed vcredist_x86. then gbpvr. went thro steps following installation wiki for gbpvr. capture source shows hvr 1600 (analog) and hvr 1500mce(analog) for connected hardwares (screen shot atached) i choose hvr 1600 (analog)

I have choosen zap2it and no channel changer required.

what am I doing wrong:confused:

Have you tried plugging your TV cable into each of the inputs on the card alternatively?

Yeah, it looks like you dont have your antenna connected.

Check if you can see the channels in the Hauppauge WinTV2000 app.

I used the tuning assistant. it tuned and found 8 channels. when i start to watch live TV i get the same grainy grey screen. I installed winTV from the disc that came with HVR 1600 and it tuned and found the same channels and also able to watch and record live TV using winTV. I dont know whats wrong.
also there are 2 functions in gbpver
1. gbpvr
2. pvrx2

are they same or one is for HD? sorry guys with these kind of noob questions. I am really new to the PVR thing.

From the screenshots in the 3rd post you have selected HVR 1500 as the source but from your posts it sounds like you have a HVR 1600 :confused:

pvrx2 is for the most recent versions of GB-PVR as it has a brand new DirectX enabeld interface. It is best to use this, ignore gbpvr.exe as it's no longer fully supported by sub (the developer of GB-PVR), and will be phased out soon.

I'm assuming you're using an antenna? Most people in the US seem to have heaps of channels (cable users).

In your capture source settings is a channel list. Next to each channel is a channel number. You should only have eight channels enabled in that list and the channel numbers should match the channel numbers shown for channels found by the Tuning Assistant. Is that what you've done?
