Normally if there is something I want to change I edit the config.xml with notepad and save it off. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I just did that and it screwed up my config file. There are utf-8 characters that don't get written out correctly. I ended up fixing it on my linux box, but from now on, I'm not going to edit using wordpad or notepad.

Get a proper editor that can handle ascii and utf with no problems. I use ultraedit (across a network). Not sure if there are some nice free ones around similar.

UltraEdit is good, But there is freeware alternatives that is (almost) as good.
ConText and Notepad++.

These two have, as UltraEdit, CodeHighlighting which makes it easier to edit xml-files.

Ok good to know. I did save it out once with wordpad as well. Something weird did happen to the file. I had a bunch of 06 characters stuck in the file in various places. I brought it up in an xml editor and removed them all once it pointed out where the trouble was. Once that was done I had the issue with the utf characters which must have been caused by saving with wordpad. Don't know what caused the trouble to begin with.

Wordpad doesn't save "pure text" but adds extra codes for "make up".
