Not a GB-PVR question I know, but hauppauge forums are next to useless!

Has anyone had any experience of mixing 2 hauppauge devices and getting them to work OK in GB-PVR? I had a nova-t pci and just installed a nova-hd-s2 (a new version of the nova-s supporting s2 broadcasts).

Cleaning out the drivers using hcwclear and then installing the latest drivers finds both cards with no problems, all looks fine in device manager. However, neither win-tv (which keeps crashing) or GB-PVR is able to use either of the cards. GB-PVR just says that the device is not available or in use. I've tried playing about with the device numbers in the capture source config page but then I get the device doesn't exist error.

Oh and I had to add an entry in bda.ini for the nova-hd card - just copied the S2 section from the HVR-4000 card.

This is on WinMCE by the way. Any ideas much appreciated!

Could it be that Winmce is "holding" the capturecards occupied. Afaik you should turn off some services in winmce to let gbpvr function properly.
I don't think wintv can handle more than one tvcard at a time.

Have you tried the hd-s2 device on its own? The Nova-t PCI is a known entity and lots of people use them with GB-PVR without problem so I would personally concentrate on the hd-s2 on it's own for the time being.

My approach would be...

  1. Backup your gbpvr.db3 then delete it.
  2. Make a copy of empty.db3 and rename it to gbpvr.db3 - this will give you a 'clean sheet' to work with.
  3. Use HCWCLEAR then power down your machine.
  4. Remove the Nova-t then bring the machine back up.
  5. Install ONLY the drivers for the hd-s2 (not the WinTV application etc).
  6. Create a new cap. source for the hd-s2 in GB-PVR and take it from there.

If you can get the hd-s2 working on its own, add the Nova-t and install the drivers for that then create a new cap. source for it. As far as I can tell, both devices should be #1 as they use different tuner filters.

Cheers,
Brian

I run a PVR250 and an HVR1600 with no particular problems with GB-PVR (3 tuners total). I would suspect MCE might be holding resources. SHS has a sample .bat file for shutting down MCE in the "MCE" section of his main site. http://www.shspvr.com/ You'd probably want to edit it for just a shutdown and another for a restart. I don't run MCE so I just do some educated guessing when there may be MCE specific problems.

or just run msconfig from run and stop all the mce stuff starting and also stop ehtray.exe

or are you actually still using the mce software
in that case dont
but im not sure mce lets you run multiple different tuners
i only used it for a day then disabled it and went straight back to gbpvr that was 2 years ago

im sure sub has a hvr4000 but hes on holiday bad timing

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm making progress (slowly). Don't think the problem was with a conflict in MCE but I've killed all the MCE processes in msconfig now anyway as they seemed to slow things down!

One key discovery I have made though is that despite this supposedly having been built into one of the updates (KB896626) I've still needed to apply the patch from http://www.hiillos.org/page/sisalto/file...cenova.zip to get things to stop crashing.

Anyway I've now got the HD-S2 working on its own in GB-PVR and finding most of the channels, so next step is putting the nova-t back in and trying to get them to work together!

Could be a red herring for you but you might want to try the cards in different PCI slots.

I have 3 Nova-T's and had conflicts (can't remember what with now) but I had to swap PCI slots for various cards including network and sound before they all worked, otherwise I had errors similar to yours.

David.
I got carried away: 3 DVB-T tuners, a DVB-S tuner, 3 MVP's and 1.1TB of storage space Smile

Thanks for the tip but think I've got it all working now. Swapping PCI slots wasn't really an option anyway as my mini-ATX board only has 2, and the longer HD-S2 card would only fit in one slot without blocking off the PSU connectors!

That link I posted above really is key though. Without it all sorts of things go wrong and I'm convinced the MS update doesn't always install correctly or driver installations overwrite it sometimes. Just posting this in case it helps anyone else!

Main teething problem now is that resume from hiberante seems much less reliable now, sometimes freezing on black screen etc. I also sometimes get a dialogue box saying "Wake detected...." (will check exact wording when I'm at home). Is this a PVRX2 generated screen when using FSE mode, or something in the new hauppauge drivers I wonder.

There is no popup in PVRX2 that would show this message, so it must be some other app/utility generating this.
