I plan on installing a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-350 (Model 990) in my new system. To record a second channel, what would y'all recommend:
Hauppauge 1042 Wintv-pvr 150 Mce
-- or
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250 (Model 980)

I don't need to record FM. Obviously the 150 is cheaper. Any advantages to the 250?

TIA

no theres no real advantage to the 250, the 150 is replacing the 250. go for the cheaper one, the video capture quality is the same.

the 250 has a remote, the 150 hasnt. but you allready have one on the 350 so i would go for the 150.

Right. I didn't think I needed 2 more remotes [Image: biggrin.gif]

My new system is:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ processor, 512 MB DDR RAM, 160 GB hard disk drive, CD-RW/DVD-ROM combination drive, VIA UniChrome integrated video w/64MB shared graphics, AC'97 integrated audio, Integrated IEEE 1394 FireWire, 56K data/fax PCI modem, Integrated 10/100 Ethernet controller, External Sony DRX-710UL firewire DVD+-RW/+-R/CD, WinXP

I'm trying to build a SuperTiVo. [Image: laugh.gif]

I have the 150 (w/ the remote), and I like. But, the 150 does the remote differently, so you can't use direct access from gbpvr w/ it.

I mention because there's a problem for a few that seems to have AMD procs, MBs, or the nForce hardware in common (it's been on Haup to figure out right now). It kicks off the irremote.exe app which controls the remote after 10-20 min and leaves you unable to restart it.

It may not effect you at all, so this is not advice, just a cautionary tale. Haup may fix, it may not be your prob, there are other remotes, you may not care, et al, so I'd base your call on card itself foremost.

I read about the AMD/nForce issues so I'm holding my breath. I'll know by next weekend - PVR boards should be here by then. But WTF, I have a new system and I'm gonna try to make it work. Thanks for the heads-up though.

PVR-150 has a remote, PVR-150 MCE doesn't. MCE has an FM tuner though.

But yeah, either 150 would be the best.

I'm not sure if it was the NForce2 causing my irremote problems or not (very unstable, didn't work half the time), but ever since I started using Girder and my Firefly, I have been a lot happier! I would suggest looking into both of those. [Image: biggrin.gif]

Ouch. So NOW I find out about the MediaMVP! I was getting the 350 for video out - and not looking forward to running coax from my computer to the TV. I still want to record 2 channels at a time, so here's the new question:
How good would a system work that had 2x 150 cards in it and an MVP to the TV? Would this be a better option than a 150 and a 350 for output?
