No Streaming Server Found

I've looked through all the other NSSF threads, but I still can't figure this one out...

I upgraded TightVNC from 1.2.9 to 1.3.9 - after my gbpvr server was rebooted as part of the install, my MVP started with the 'No Streaming Server Found' thing. I re-installed 1.2.9, rebooted, unplugged the MVP, waited 5 mins - still the same. Then I did all the rebooting again, but I included the router...

My router shows my server and the mac address of my MVP - they both have IP addresses in the same subnet. Can't find any errors in the logs, probably because nothing's actually happened yet. I don't have a clue :confused: so I'm off to bed to sleep on it...

Any suggestions please... on a postcard to... :o

Having slept on it, had a few beers at lunchtime, went to the football, 40 winks on the sofa, ate dinner, I went back to basics and started pinging various IP addresses...

Ping of GBPVR server failed with error 65... google came up with this. Up till a few weeks ago I had Zonealarm running on the GBBPVR server... it worked fine, but you can't respond to an alert via VNC, resulting in a few ascents up to the attic to respond, so eventually I disabled it through WinPatrol. Everything still working.

Anyway, I uninstalled Zonealarm, switched on the XP firewall, added PVRX2 to the exceptions and everything now back to normal.

Still don't have a clue why upgrading VNC should start off this chain of events, but there you are... Come back DOS (that's IBM mainframe DOS), all is forgiven. :p

VNC and the GBPVR/Hauppauge mvp servers can have a conflict on tcp ports starting at port 5906 depending on how many vnc displays you allow. Maybe this woke up something.

VNC starts at 5900 and goes up one per "display"
GBPVR starts at 5906 and goes up for each mvpserver that is enabled.

Could be something like that - I've got 4 slave machines (including the GBPVR server) - I control them all from my laptop...

Could be that the new version of VNC was forgetting to reuse ports and clagged up the GBPVR server...

Anyway lesson learned - when looking at problems, start with the basics
