Digital Jerkiness??

I'm having problems with digital jerkiness with both viewing & recording digital stations whether it's a QAM channel or OTA ATSC signals. Analog channels aren't a problem. I've tried different muxes, Cyberlink, Nvidia pure video decoder, Intervideo non-CSS etc. The last two are better than the Cyberlink one. I checked the signal using VLC with the HdHomerun tuners & the picture is perfect on both the LCD monitor & the the Mutsubishi TV. I have plenty of machine, so I'm not sure what to look at next to solve this problem.

Any ideas?

What muxes have you tried?
You've listed a couple of decoders there, but not the muxes.

It seems most people on here think the 5307 version of the cyberlink mux is the best. (this is what I use for my satellite card recordings)

I had similar problems with the CyberLink decoder and other problems with the PureVideo. I'm currently using the MPV Decoder and it plays smoothly.

I think I solved the problem. I always use Zone Alarm Pro on all my computers. I found some info that the only way to solve the problem using my HDHomerun tuners was to uninstall Zone Alarm. Didn't want to do it as I don't trust the Windows Firewall but it seems to have solved the problem so far. Is there any work around to continue using ZA, GBPVR & my HDHr tuners?

ZA and most software firewalls have two issues where the HDHomeRun is concerned:

1) The do not process data fast enough to allow the video/data stream to pass properly. This should be easily fixed by disabling the firewall from checking traffic to and from the unit. The problem with that is...

2) "Disabling" these firewalls does not really disable them. Uninstall is usually the only way to disable them fully.

Side Note:
I personally have stopped using or recommending internet protection suites like McAffee and Norton. I have found it to be easier to remove the things they "protect" you against than it is to remove the protection programs... especially if they get corrupted. I recommend a simple antivirus like AVG and a good hardware firewall.

The mux is a filter which combines the audio & video data in digital transmissions together into a playable file. If you have Win XP SP2, then there is a mux already installed, and it will produce DVR-MS files, not MPEGs.

The ones listed above are playback filters, where the multiplexer is an encoding filter.
