Client won't respond to changes

Okay, I've searched everywhere with no answer. This is the problem. I'm running 1.016 on my server (XP Home) with ports 7969 and 7968 opened. The client is a Vista laptop with the same GBPVR version connected wirelessly.

This setup worked before (though not well, but it worked). I rebuilt the server, and now the client just crashes in the Guide section, the folder locations never appear even though I've changed them (it goes to C. I have tried it with both firewalls shut off (Windows firewall) to no avail. No changes have been made to the router.

I can browse the gbpvr folder from the laptop and move and change files so the sharing seems to work. But when I make changes in the config of the client, nothing seems to change, I pick the locations by browsing (so no typos).

Any ideas?

It sounds like Vista's file protections is getting in the way. First make sure that when you run config.exe it is running as administrator, mine does by default, but I don't think that's true for everyone. The second problem might be your VirtualStore. Seach VirtualStore on this forum for several links to this.

Also if you do edit config.xml manually, or apply patches you have to make sure you are using a Run as Administrator option.

It was the VirtualStore, I deleted the hidden config.xml and that did it. I was going nuts!
