Hey, thanks for the quick response!

Okay, so I feel bad for wasting your time here, but the problem seems to be solved. I remembered that when I installed the ffdshow decoder package, I had made some non default selections, including, if I remember correctly, limiting the applications to which it had access. Now, I did try to specifically grant access to pvrx2.exe and the recording service exe, but maybe there are some other processes I needed to allow. So, long story short, I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with all the default options and selected to allow it access to any application. I'm now using the Nero video decoder (same as before) and the ffdshow audio decoder (same as before), and the playback is perfect! Also, I am recording a program as we speak, with nary a stutter in sight!

I'll let you know if it comes up again, but as so often seems to be the case with the byopvr crowd, it appears tp be all about the decoders. Smile

Ok, cool. Glad you got it sorted.

Yep - definitely the most common cause of playback problems.

It's an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS. The driver is version 6.14.11.6369. Does that help?

Okay, problem back in full force again. Nothing has changed, and live TV was working earlier, but now that a recording is going, the PC is freezing up every 11 seconds or so.

In answer to a question sub asked earlier, yes, the CPU does spike somewhat when these lockups happen, from around 3-6% to 40-70%, then back to normal immediately afterwards.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Can you try graphing this CPU usage in perfmon?

Which process is causing it? is it PVRX2.exe or something else?

Do you get the same thing playing back a recording?

Do you have a valid EPG?

disable (in task manager) all 'non-essential' items, from my experience I would definitely disable any network devices (even if they aren't in use), also bluetooth, IR ports, all of which could be polling at regular intervals....

Also check virus scanners or firewalls - these have been known cause these sorts of CPU spikes while trying to monitor GB-PVR.

Yes, I can play back a recording no problem. I can also play back a file from my video library (ie: an .avi) no problem.

Yes, I have a valid EPG. At least, it lets me update and seems to have the correct programming in it.

It definitely seems to relate to the processing of the live video somehow. Are there other decoders I should perhaps try?
