coloured buttons beside name in forum

There is a small button near the name of the person posting the message and most buttons are grey or transparent. Mine has just started displaying green as opposed to grey or transparent. What is the significance of the colour and if I am not supposed to be in the green category, how do I change it back?

Gray means they are inactive on the forum. Green means they are active on the forum. Active means the clicked something on the website in the last five minutes or so. You should always see your own button as green. If you hold the mouse over the button a little "Online Now" message pops up.
