Searched forum and didn't see any solutions to my symptoms. Basically, the MVP works like a champ watching recorded programs. I don't use it to watch live tv, but I was trying to debug a problem for my father related to live tv (different system, not listed in my sig).

So, I tried to select Live TV, and the screen pauses for several seconds and then the MVP reboots. There's an error shown in the logs, but I can't determine anything from it. The server is PVR-2, running 1.0.16 with all patches and no embellishments.

Sub, help! (umm, please?)

No particular cause is obvious in the logs.

Does an mpeg file get created in the live tv buffer directory, and is it growing?

Well this is annoying, but I tried it again (about the fourth try) with the Live TV buffer directory showing on the server, and...it worked. I'd try it more extensively now, but my friend is within a couple miles of one of the Southern California fires and may have to evacuate, so that's become the urgent item tonight.

Thanks for looking at it so quickly.

If your D: drive is actually a share it would explain this, loading the directory as admin you might have also reconnected the share mapping. I know this is unlikely since shares typically start at a higher letter but I thought I'd throw it out as a possibility.

The server's hard drive is partitioned into an OS and programs drive ( C: ) and a data drive ( D: ). All GB-PVR data folders are pointed to folders on the D: drive. The MediaMVP is a rev. H3 with rev. 2.05 firmware.

The problem is repeatable, and also has a work-around. From the time I power on the unit (with or without pulling the power from the unit beforehand), if I try to go directly to LiveTV it will cause a reboot.

However, if I first go into recordings, play something briefly and exit from playback, then LiveTV will work. Going into the TV Guide or just going into the Recording list does not fix the problem.

Hmm wonder if this is related to something I have noticed. The wife has some pet birds & likes me to put music on for them to listen to, if I start the MVP & go straight into the music library & tell it to start playing I get no sound at all from then on I will get no sound from anything I try until I shut down the MVP & start it up again. But if I fire it up & then go into recording & briefly play something, then go into music library & tell it to play all will be fine.

jaggy and prouton, both those problems seem similar to the problem I've found and reported if you hit a key too soon after the first screen appears. It would be interesting to see if waiting an extra five or ten seconds helps. The birds will have to suffer.

Jaggy I do have to ask who they prefer? Maybe The Byrds, A Flock of Seagulls, I'm A Cuckoo in the morning, and then some Charlie Parker in the afternoon?

Typical....blasted computers....it is now working fine every time I try it nothing I can do will stop it from playing fine. I'm sure I haven't changed anything on the MVP server since I upgraded to 1.0.16 apart from the skin. But it was happening all the time. I just had a thought the other MVP is playing music at the moment & it wouldn't normally be, so I will have to try again later when it is turned off to see if that makes a difference.

Hmmm, yes, it seems that if after turning the unit on, I let it time out (turn on the screen saver) and then try LiveTV as the first action...it works. I wonder how long it actually needs before it's usable? Oh well, until such time as I decide to use LiveTV myself (which is painfully slow when changing channels -- is that largely the fault of the slow server?) I'll just keep this in mind and allow for it. Thanks Martin!
