Hi guys,
I'm new around these parts, been reading the wiki's and the forums for a couple of days now though.
I've just rebuilt my old Server2k3 box to be more of a media box, and GBPVR is just what i'm looking for. I've got an old analogue tv tuner card (V-Stream PVR7137) that i'm trying to use for testing before I go and splash out on anything better (Probably a Nova-T or something).

The rest of the specs of the box:
XP Pro SP2
Athlon 3000+
2gb DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9550 128mb
650GB HDDs
PureVideo Decoder v1.02.223
DirectX9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Latest ATI Catalyst stuff.

I'm having a couple of problems with stuff that's probably pretty obvious and i've just overlooked - firstly when I run GBPVR, I get the whole "VMR9 is not supported" message - not sure why this is still happening when I've updated all the drivers and everything? I've switched to Overlay Manager for now anyway, until I can figure out the problem!

Secondly, I'm not really sure how i'm supposed to get the EPG data - is there an extra program I need to run or something? I can't seem to find any info about that!

Thirdly, is this all just 'easier' if you get a decent card, and is there any further software (filters, decoders, etc) that are recommended for a setup like mine?!

Thanks in advance, and well done on putting together what looks like a great package Smile

EPG wise I think people use XMLTV for normal TV http://www.birtles.org.uk/xmltv/

Never heard of a V-Stream PVR7137 so don't know if it will work with GB-PVR. If you can get hold of one (and have Freeview in your area) a Hauppage nova-t is a good choice, come with a remote control too.

Oh and welcome to GB-PVR Smile

downgrade your video card drivers to 7.7 or lower (vmr playback problem)

The 'new' pvrx2 will only run with vmr9, the 'old' GBPVR will run with overlay, vmr7 and vmr9. Both versions are installed. So when you use pvrx2 it doesn't make any difference what you set your video renderer to.

Afaik in the uk there is an xmltv appl. by Brittles (I think) that you can use to download your epg.

Does your tv-tunercard have a mpg-encoder, if not then it's not supported by gbpvr.

Welcome to the forum, don't hesitate to ask, this is about the best-mannered forum on the net.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Yeah, the card is a P.O.S, lol..i think i'll try and get hold of a nova tomorrow.
Typical that the drivers are too new - updating is never anything but trouble! I guess for now my aim will be to just get into the program properly and get it playin old files on the machine.

Oh, and I was using GBPVR since PVRX2 seems to only work with VMR9 - hopefully if this driver downgrade works ok, i'll switch over!

There are many programs to capture guides from the web and convert to XML, I use TVxb (http://www.tvxb.com), another suggestion was XMLTV, YAPI2XML
is another, you just have to choose which one is appropriate for your needs.

When I started, I reviewed what was most used by the other users and recommended by sub, and that's how I built my system, have been happy with my system ever since. Easier to maintain as well, althought it is fun to tinker with it, the point of the whole project really is be able to use it to record, watch, listen, view photos, etc.

Once this is all done, it makes it easier to justify to the wifey all the effort and investments that went into building the system. sub and all the plugin developers also make the system extremely easy to maintain.

What kind of playback problem? I'm using catalyst 7.10 with my x1900 and it plays back analog recordings just fine. But recorded digital OTA content is played back in slow-mo... is this what you're referring to?

Woo!
Downgraded to Catalyst 7.7 and it's all working nicely - VMR9 plays ball properly now. Managed to get some TV Guide stuff working (albeit manually) using Birtle's XMLTV - pretty neat little app. Also video library playback etc

Sending the gf to go pick me up a Nova-T today since im off on a course in the middle of nowhere, so hopefully i'll be able to play properly with the real tv stuff - quite excited about it really (apparently I need to get out more, lol).

I did try to add the Basic skin so I could do some playin around with the themepacks, but it just hung when i started PVRX2 with the Basic skin loaded, so I just changed back to the blue one until I get a real chance to play around!

One other thing...am I being really thick, or is there an obvious way to make PVRX2/GBPVR full screen (i.e without the windows title bar at the top and the taskbar at the bottom)?

Really slick app guys - I was impressed with GBPVR, and then I managed to get into PVRX2, now that's neat!
