remote control and lan problems

Someone told me to post the logs here.

Ok, I have a lan. And plenty of computers on it. Plenty.
The PC is a fresh installed XP pro box.
It can see and use all the shares on all the machines on my lan.
I can browse, copy, move, delete, create, etc....
My lan is a mix of M$, Linux and Mac OS X. Many terrabytes worth.

I can do anything I want with my lan from the PC in question.

However when I bring up gb-pvr, lan operation is flakey at best.
Sometimes I can browse and use the lan shares but mostly not.
When I try to enter a share on say for instance my Mac, the first time it worked fine, I leave and go play a video on another drive/machine then go back to the Mac. Now it won't go there anymore.
When I press the remote button (or use the mouse) to enter that directory on the lan, it just sends me back to the top level menu of gb-pvr.

Does that make sense?

Also, the remote control which is a genuine M$ MCE remote and remote receiver sort of works when it feels like. When I'm playing a video, sometimes I can FF, RW and skip or abort out and sometimes I can't.
Sometimes I start a video and can't get out of it at all unless I get up and use the mouse. What gives with that??

So I put the logs up like they told me. (Oh yes, and I know the date is wrong. The battery is dead in the PC and everytime I turn it off it resets everything. )
I hope someone can tell me what the heck the problem is.

Thank you..

In the config, for your directories do you use the full name or the short name with a "~" in it? Are they mapped directories or \\machine\directory format?

ok, I just configured the lan folders with the gbpvr config program that popped up the first time I ran it.

Here's the config file it generated. I don't know how to read it because I don't know anything about xml..

Maybe it will make sense to you, it doesn't to me.

It looks like you are using mapped folders. That could be a problem. I'd try running config and setting the folders to \\machine\folder format rather than mapped (ie T:\mac movies). You'll have to type them in versus browsing for them. Be sure to use the full name and not the short name with the tilde in it. Not saying that will fix your problem but it might. Best I can come up with for ya at this point girl Smile

Um, I just wiped out gb and reinstalled it fresh.
When it was done it came up to the config utility.
It doesn't allow me at all the option to type in anything, it forces me to browse and click through a little window it opens.

Oh wait, maybe this will work, if I skip down past the mapped drives and go into the workgroup part, I can select stuff a different way.

Maybe this will work. Going to throw a few in there this way and see.
It's a REAL pain though..
Thank you, this may be it.

If you want your problems resolved, the best thing you can do is reproduce a single problem, then post the logs and give me a good description of what you were trying to do and what happened.

Your post above is just a jumble of random stuff that makes it next impossible for me to work through.

Sorry. I don't know how else to explain it.
Anyway, I think I found what crashes it, there's one folder on my Mac that seems to crash it. If I try to access that folder gb quits seeing anything on my lan until I restart it.

You can manually add them in the xml (only edit with notepad, not wordpad!) or if you browse for them go after the folders on machines in your network neighborhood, not mapped drives.

I don't run Mac so I'll be no help on that one. I'm guessing they use some kind of Samba variant and that can get tricky at times.

Keep plugging away at it. You'll get it working and once you do you will wonder how you ever got along without this awesome app!

Also, nice to see you toned it down some. This is a really great community. Great people willing to help, and problems resolved faster than any other support I've ever seen. Patience, persistence, and treating other well on here will go a LONG way Smile

Well, I'm a hard head. I get that from my dad. That and he was an electrical engineer so I was exposed to a lot of nerd stuff when I was little. I don't like to give up but I always threaten to. My biggest problem is I have permanent PMS..

Ok so it seems like I've narrowed it down and weeded out the network share that was crashing gb-pvr. I have no clue on earth why it was crashing it but it was. Once I dropped that share out of the list everything seems to be fine now.

Now if I could just figure out why the silly remote control won't work right.
