MVP stutters when viewing recordings

I meant checking the throughput using the file transfer capability in MVPMC. If you search the forums, mvallevand has explained how to do this a few times before. You just transfer a file from PC to MVP at maximum speed and that way you can measure how good your throughput is.

Thanks for the details it helps a lot. Having multiple routers isn't that bad when there is only one dhcp and it looks like that routing might not be a problem if you can load mvpmc. Everything is on the LAN side of the router.

If you can load mvpmc and telnet into it (root is the id) you can find out if you have significant network errors with the ifconfig command. Dropped and collisions would be a really significant problem, a small amount of overruns is unfortunate with the network chip

If you can't load the mvpmc share you might still be able to open a share manually via telnet if you have a NAS or Windows share. Let me know if you need help.

Okay... news on this:
I updated the firmware on my D-Link wireless router, that connectes the server to the wireless bridge at the MVP.
Then in MVPMC I did a test, and got .66mb/s.

I went and played a video through GBPVR and got stuttering (not as bad as before.)

Then I did another test, and got .85mb/s.

I would certainly expect poor performance with those numbers. Is there anyway you could try a wired test on the same router for comparison?

As I benchmark from I windows share I just got these results.

Bytes: 38338560 Seconds: 25.50 Throughput: 11.47 mb/s

Bytes: 78938112 Seconds: 50.63 Throughput: 11.90 mb/s

Yesterday I installed MVP Server Checker and performance went back to perfect. I didn't do the throughput numbers, but I can watch a show without a stutter.

I'm not sure if it's coincidence, or if it really did help. And I haven't checked to see if it's altered performance on the server, but I'll let you know.

I am having similar problems with my wireless MVP.

Can you point me to a complete NEWBIE instruction on:
1)How to throttle back recording bitrate.
2)How to do the speed test on mvpmc and how to install it.

To do the speed test from mvpmc you need to create a share on you GBPVR server which you can map to from the mvpmc. Unfortunately there is no guide to this so your best bet is to google for windows networking and windows share.

I am having the same problem, 1 second or so of playback, and 2 seconds of pausing on the MVP. I have it wired, so its not a wireless issue. If I use the Hauppauge software/dongle i get "perfect" playback. But i promised my girfriend the two tv's that she uses would look the same, so I'd really like to get the GBPVR look on the MVP. I have used many different dongles tried two different routers. I even bought a new processor/motherboard thinking my old system didnt have enough power for it. The same happens for downloaded AVI's or GBPVR recorded MPG's both play fine on the wireless DSM-510 and the HTPC. I will try the MVP Server Checker tonight, but i feel that if the default software works, it cant be a network/MVP problem.

Compress and attach your logs when the MVP is playing an MPG file and I will have a look. I'd prefer if you did the test with the mvpmc dongle.

I tried looking through the logs myself, and I thought i'd mention i'm not running any software firewalls, and not much is running on the server (i'm attempting HIP). I do have tversity installed, but i was having the problem before that, and i've killed all the TVersity services.
