Comskip, gbpvr, dvr-ms half wrong

I am running the latest gbpvr, compskip version 111, automatic.

I recorded a few shows, and the commercial cuts are way off. In looking into it, I realize that on the Tonight Show last night, the OSD shows commercials during the first half, but none in the second half. The commercial cuts are all wrong. A careful look shows that the commercial cuts are exactly halfway to where they need to be, explaining why the second half of the show has no cuts.

In other words, if there is a commercial from minute 10 to minute 12, it displays (and skips) from minute 5 to minute 6!

So, I think the search is working well, but something is wrong.

I have the MUX set to DVR-MS, Vid decode is MPV, Audio is ffdshow, Audio render Direct Sound Realtek HD Audio, and video render is vmr9 custom -fse (started with a separate shortcut to get -fse)

I have comskip set up in gbpvr. I used the supplied comskip.ini, except changes the live_tv to 1 and the live tv retries to 120. I also deleted all the comskip files in the Tonight Show folder and re-ran comskip manually, same result. Logs of that re-run are attached.

I have seen this on a few shows, particularly Tonight Show, but I suspect it is on all shows. I switched to Cyberlink MUX, and now the commercials are OK in newly recorded shows. So it looks like an issue with DVR-MS format.

I think I got Cyberlink to finally give me proper mux, so I'll probably stay with that, but was happy with dvr-ms (no mux problems, audio always matched video). I can try things further if you like.

Follow up:

After trying various searches, I did find a similar problem at http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...-ms&page=4, and it seems to have to do with frame rate.

I see a solution at the end, partially through the prior owner of the problem. I can try this, but not sure I understood it all.

Can you clarify where to make the settings, in both Comskip and gbpvr, to make and use the edl files? Comskip is not presently creating an edl file.

The tonight show, when this occurs, is at 1080i. I am using Clear Qam with an Aver m780 card.

Can't help you with your problem but your not alone. I have the same problem with comskip, works perfect with mpeg but not with dvr-ms.

Take a look at the last page of the link in my second posting. The solution is there, just need help setting it up. My wife is watching CSI right now, so when she is done I should be able to see if I can figure those settings out. But, I have not delved that deeply in yet...

Spoke too soon, indeed switching to edl output should do the trick.
For comskip you should set
output_edl=1
in the comskip.ini file.
For gbpvr you have to ask here at the forum. (its actually in the post referred to by the link )

I changed output_edl to 1. The gbpvr already had the preference for edl set. Looks like it is working, albeit slower than mpeg, at least the commercials are in the right place now.

Almost, but not quite.
My wife had watched a show 8 to 9:00. It was still going through comskip when my recording started at 9:00, so there was no skip to begin with. Late in the show (perhaps even after the recording stopped, not certain of the timing) the commercials started showing up in the OSD. However, once again they were 1/2 scaled, and the second half showed no commercials. When I finished watching, it was still 1/2 scale. I exited, and came back in, and the commercials were now correct.

SO, somehow with live TV enabled (but maybe not starting until the recording was over), the scaling issue was till there (it did not use the EDL even though it created it).

Well, I am sure you will work it out. however, I think I'll go back to MPEG with Cyberlink. That seems more stable with commercials. The DVR-ms seems more likely not to lose synch between audio and video, but I tried a different version of Cyberlink and it seemed better.

Looks like the edl does solve the problem for record, comskip completely, then view.

I'll keep the logs around in case you need them for that show.

You could maybe set
output_default=0
to disable the generation of the .txt file and to make sure gbpvr is using the edl file.
