Do the same files play in Windows Media Player?

Quote:btw Where is the Play CD button gone??
Sorry, this is no longer an option. GBPVR.exe used to rely on an embedded Windows Media Player component to do this, but it is not possible in the new Direct3D based user interface.

Yes they work in Windows Media Player, but I don't have a working version on my system. Something to do with not a valid copy:-) You didn't read that! Anyway the files play on at least 3 differnt pc and in various player. It's just some wont seem to start up in PVRX2 but no prob in GBPVR

Im going to test and copy an original file with a cd. Most of my files are moved from work to home with a Creative Vision M, Maybe something funny going on there? Even though i dont see that that is the prob.

I'll also test some of the non working files on another pc with pvrx2. See if its a prob my home pc or pvrx2

Just tested on another PC. Files plays in WMP, Creative medai player, and GBPVR but not in PVRX2

I suspect if you download GraphEdit, and select the 'render media file' menu option, then select your file, then press 'play' you'll get some error. Can you try it?

Ok her are the graphs
GRF1 is a file that wont play in PV but in everthing else + at least 4 diferent pc's and my Vison M
GRF2 is a file that plays in PV and everywere else
GRF3 is a divx Stargate episode that plays the music but not the speech in PV but in everthing else VLC etc. The speech is either very low or garbled. This seems to be on about 5 episodes. A lest a 100 episodes play ok from the same scource and on everthing else.

Hope yuu can shed some light on this. Strange behavior

I had missed your most recent reply, but no, I dont really have any suggestions.

.grf files are not portable between machines, so I cant look at those files you included.

Can you me one of your MP3 music files that isnt playing? I'll PM you my email address.

Thanks for sending the .MP3 file through.

Unfortunately the file cant be played by GraphEdit, Directshow, PVRX2.exe, or GBPVR.exe (when <UseWindowsMediaPlayerForAudio> is set to 'false' in config.xml), so it seems these .mp3 files are just not compatible with the default Directshow components, which GB-PVR uses for it's media playback. I suspect you can probably get it working by installing either:

1) a custom MP3 parser like http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MP3_...Filter.htm
2) or an updated directshow mp3 decoder like http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPEG..._Codec.htm

or both.

WMP must have some other components it can use to play these files, but I'm not sure what they are, and they're not used by default in Directshow.

In the long run you're probably better off using a different mp3 encoder rather than whatever was used to produce these files. Sure, they worked in a couple of the big players (VLC, WMP), but these files will most likely not work in a large number of other players.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a try. What I find strange is that the a files ripped from the same album at the same time. Some few play in PVRX2 and some don't!

The file I sent you does play in GBPVR! Well on my GBPVR! Just not in PVRX2.

Anyway, again thanks for looking into this. I try the decoders and let you know

Thats because you've got <UseWindowsMediaPlayerForAudio> set to true in config.xml. If you set it to false, to get it to use directshow, you'll find it doesnt work.

Its not just PVRX2. It seems to be every player that just asks directshow to play it, including the directshow GraphEdit utility. For whatever reason, these .mp3 files you're generating a not standard .mp3 files that are compatible with everything.
