I'm running 1.1.5 PVRX2.

Everything seems great, except to try and make life easier to start I have programmed one of the remote keys to start pvrx2.

However everytime it is pressed a new instance is created (rather than refocusing). I have tried -fse, I have tried the PVRX2stub.exe, all to no avail. Has anyone any ideas??

Try the attached patch and let me know what messages popup on the screen when you start the second instance. Backup your original version of this file though, since you'll need to put it back after running the test.

i get a box "aquired mutex, only instance runing"
press again ok pvrx2 starts
keep pressing once started ,no more than one instance starts

so other than the box when i first start it seems to work

there were no more boxes pop up although with fse running i may not see them but when i close pvrx2 no boxes on screen

That sounds like its doing its thing correctly. The first acquires the mux, and allows the application to start. Subsequent attempts are unable to aquire the mux and switch the focus to the existing running instance. Going by that info, you should be able to switch back to the old version of pvrx2.exe and it should be fine.

The logic in this version is exactly the same as the previous version you were running. The only difference was I added a message box to say the reason it was allowed to keep running (there are three possible reasons).

sorry for wasting your time im sure it was doing it
i had added a close in hip so every second button press would close it

just to get it right in my head the new version 1.1.5 would have only ever opened one instance or did one of the patches fix it?

The logic for making sure that only instance of the application is running hasnt changed since the first release of 1.0.x. There is no patch that changes this behaviour.

I believe some people are getting it, because there have been a few reports. Unfortunately I cant see how its possible, and have been unable to reproduce it here. PVRX2.exe uses the exact sample logic to detect multiple instances as was used in GBPVR.exe in the past, though PVRX2 startup takes slightly longer which may have some bearing on this. It also only seems to have been reported by people trying to use HIP to do it.

I'm guessing it is something to do with HIP trying to start the process twice only milliseconds apart or something similiar, maybe causing some odd timing issues I'm unable to reproduce by clicking the icon manually (magnitude slower). I'm not going to install HIP to test it.

i know on the last one i could do by clicking on the icon in the task bar
which doesnt use Hip
im just happy its all working again
normally you just say do this or that and the problem goes away but since you couldnt reproduce it ........
when using fse this was a pain in the ass so im glad ive got it back to how it used to work
be interesting to see if people with the same problem try what i just did and see what the results are like
it was like something was going into a loop or hanging when it started before and now its not
