It is Vista's file protection getting in the way. Delete the C:\users\<account name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program files\devnz directory. The AppData directory is hidden, but exists.

I'm trying to run GB-PVR on XP w/SP2 and am experiencing the same problem as the OP. GB-PVR refuses to save/use the EPG list. I can update it, but as soon as I close it and reopen it, all of the boxes are unchecked...although they do show as checked under the "Channels" tab in the config.

Live TV gives the same error message as well, "No channels have been set up", etc.

Here are screen shots of everything I'm seeing:

http://i7.tinypic.com/8bzb67d.jpg - Error message w/Live TV

http://i19.tinypic.com/8e5yngg.jpg - Capture Setup

http://i3.tinypic.com/6lsided.jpg - Recognized device

http://i17.tinypic.com/6yaqonm.jpg - EPG List on first download

http://i5.tinypic.com/6wwqzyr.jpg - EPG List after closing and reopening the config utility

http://i2.tinypic.com/89uzk2s.jpg - Channel list

I'd really like to use the program, but I'm about to uninstall it after trying to get it configured for over four hours. I've read the wiki...updated the one .dll file, reconfigured everything with the recording service stopped, unloaded from the systray, etc., etc. but nothing is working.

BTW, I build and service computers so don't be afraid of a little tech talk if needed.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It looks like the step you've missed is hitting the 'map digital channels to epg channels' button. When you click this it'll scan for channels. When the scan is complete, up need to click in the tuning request column next to each channel to perform the mapping.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I actually did miss that step and did as you suggested, however it was unable to find any digital channels. I did enter the channel numbers individually however.

I now have a TV guide!:

However when I click on Live TV in GB-PVR I get this error notice:

http://i5.tinypic.com/865cch4.jpg

Perhaps the "no digital channels" bit is an issue? I'm not sure what to do about that.

So I think I've made headway with your help, but I'm still stuffed when it comes to getting this bugger working. Not sure it's worth your time, but if you think of something else I've missed I'd appreciate any ideas.

FYI, the rest of the program works re; photos, music videos, etc. I'll be chuffed if I can get the TV/PVR working.

Also, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I've also made sure the drivers for the video card are installed, but I did not install the WinTV setup files themselves.

Thanks very much for your help!

BTW, my wife and I just returned from living for several years in NZ. Had to come back to the States for family reasons. We lived in Rotorua then Tauranga and finally in Auckland. We miss it a LOT! But we're still huge All Blacks fans and always will be. Big Grin Even though they had the Rugby World Cup stolen away by a bad call. Bloody frogs. Wink

Cheers!

To me this indicates the heart of the problem. If I were you I'd take a step back and see if I could get the card to work in WinTV. Maybe you've got a dead card?

I'm not sure about ATSC, but I don't think the channels should be on the format "T:2". We Europeans use a format something like "T:C50,706000,0,0,8~NID:0~ONID:0~TSID:4099~P:4...", and I bet ATSC needs something like that too. That string would have been found automatically during the scan if the channels were found.
I'm not always right

You cant enter the info like that. It needs a whole lot more info.

Do the scan again then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

I've been using this card (it's actually a USB device) and WinTV and WinTV2000 do work quite well.

I'd have to do some research to find out more about the channels though. If I have to enter a string like "T:C50,706000,0,0,8~NID:0~ONID:0~TSID:4099~P:4..." for 60+ channels  I think I'll pass.

I'll give that a shot as soon as I figure out where the logs are kept.

As mentioned, I really like the program, but if it means entries as noted above and much more work I think I'll pop for BeyondTV or some other program that isn't so "setup intensive". :o

BTW, I did have a trial version of BeyondTV as well as j. River Media Center installed and both immediately found all of my channels and worked fine. I'm not a tightwad; not looking for a freebie program. I just like the way GB-PVR works better.

So if that long-string entry for each channel is part of the price of admission, just let me know because I don't want to waste any of you guy's time here. I'm always up for a challenge...but time-wise there are limits. Just thought it would be nice to use what appears to be a great program. Smile

Thanks very much...really appreciate both of your time!

The user typically doesnt enter those strings. You normally hit the 'map digital channels to epg channels' button and it does a channel scan and collects this information automatically.

The logs are kept in the "logs" subdirectory. ie c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\logs.

the folder that is named logs Smile

sometimes when you have tried all the different pvr software before hand problems arise when you remove them from your system
then the tuners dont work as they should
i have seen in the past sagetv been tried then removed wont let the tuners work properly after the software has been uninstalled

That's really good news! Phew!

Understood...and d'oh! :o

Cheers for the info mates! I’m on the road today but will check everything ASAP.

Each time I’ve done an installation I’ve set a restore point and rolled things back whenever I uninstalled them. I’ve used WinTV’s “hcwclear.exe” to ensure everything is wiped as well each time. Kind of a PITA, but I tend not to let inanimate objects get the best of me.

Be back soon and thanks again! Smile
