Can some of you that have switched from XP to Vista give me your feedback on whether it was a good move or bad move. Is EVR worth the switch? Any major headaches with vista over XP? My system should handle it fine but wasn't sure if it's worth the effort as I have no real issues other than I'm curious with EVR.

I dont think its worth the effort. Getting EVR support might be worth it for those that are receiving H.264 based DVB channels, which can give you nice low CPU usage on machines with the right hardware. Other than that scenario though, you'll probably just find your machine is slower and uses more memory.

Can't see it being worth the bother to you.

I do get a BIG improvement in TCP speed compared with XP, though.

I went back to XP as well. I had a spare Vista32 license so went with that originally but I had an audio distortion (over HDMI) problem that I could not cure. All worked straight out the box with XP.

This just about convinces me to downgrade (upgrade?) my new desktop/server which came with Vista pre-installed to XP. I haven't really had time to learn the ins and outs of the new owner/permissions stuff. Maybe it's just bad semantics on Microsofts part, but I am so tired of my PC telling me I don't have permission to do this or that. It feels like trying to run Linux without a root account.

I've disabled so much security stuff in XP trying to get simple things to run that it's probably far less secure than my old well tuned XP box was.

I still use Vista more than XP but I was given a copy for testing for MS. If not for that, I don't think I would have purchased it until I bought a new computer.
GPBVR has run well in Vista and I've had only very minor problems, mostly during installs but they've been easy to fix (thanks to this forum). If you have it, I'd say give it a try but if not, XP is rock solid!

dgeezer - you can disable the UAC (user authentication control) via msconfig in vista, stops all that 'sure you want to open control panel' nonsense..

on vista's plus side - the boot time is much quicker and sleep/wake is incredibly fast.

although was a hassle to setup, i find it quite stable and the 'run as xp sp2' works very well.

I really just need time to work with it. It always seems like there's no better way to get busy at work than to buy a new toy...
