I'm unable to hear audio in my DVD playback with GBPVR since rebuilding my HTPC after harddrive crash. DVD playback in Windows Media Player is fine. Before the crash, I never even worried about codecs, whatever I had on my system was fine. Now I've downloaded both Intervideo and NVIDIA and still cant get it to work.

I have:
NVIDIA GeForce 7699 GS
Haupage PVR 150
GB-PVR v 1.08

Options under DVD Playback:
Video Decoder: System Default, Intervideo, NVIDIA
Audio Decoder: MPEG, NVIDIA, Intervideo, Intervideo Non CSS for Hauppage, ffdshow
Audio Renderer: SoundMAX Digital Audio, Default DirectSound Device, Default WaveOut Device, DirectSound: SoundMAx Digital Audio

I think I've tried every permutation - can someone please help?

I'm interested in this too. I've never been able to get audio when I play back DVD's with GBPVR - WMP plays fine, GBPVR is flawless video, but no sound - it's odd since I was under the assumption that GBPVR used WMP for playback - I guess that assumption is incorrect.
GBPVR v1.4.7
Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz
4 GB RAM, 160GB system drive

HDHomeRun - ASTC via antenna
nVidia GeForce 8600GT
1 PCH @ 1080p componenent (was NTSC via composite)
1 PCH @ 1080p HDMI (was component)

You could try the freeware AC3 filter as your audio decoder for DVDs. It fixed my DVD audio problems. I use PureVideo for both video and audio for recordings, and PureVideo for the DVD video decoder, but AC3 filter for the DVD audio decoder. Try searching the forum for AC3 filter; I think others have used this setup to solve DVD audio problems. As for audio renderer, I'd use the specific sound card direct sound renderer, such as SoundMax or Realtek or whatever you have. Works for me.

I use Nvidia Purevideo (Platinum) for DVD video and audio - and it works very well, downmixing 5.1 or DTS sound to my four-speaker PC system. But Purevideo was always available in different 'flavours' - bronze, gold, platinum - and I think audio capabilities were what made each one different.
Have you tried going into the DVD menu and setting audio to stereo only to see if it then plays?

Rather than AC3 filter I would try FFDSHOW - it can handle all audio types, and again it will make the original audio fit your speaker setup. In fact you could use FFDshow for all your audio and video decoding and not have any other decoders installed!

Having just setup AC3Filter I'd recomment that for audio. Can't comment on FFSShow but it seems just as good.

AC3Filter is very configurable, can pass through sound or re-encode depending on the type and source. I use it to generate surround 5.1 for recordings and live tv but let it pass through MP3s as stereo. You can even correct for out of sync.
