Hi,

I am having a really weird issue with my main GBPVR setup. Before I post logs etc, I would interested to know if anyone has experienced what is happening to me, as I am running XP SP3 (latest RC) as a test.

What happens is, say 30secs into watching live TV, GBPVR freezes and a crash notification appears over then screen. Then a "no signal" msg appears behind the crash notification. When I quit out of GBPVR, the task tray has a green "g" (indicating a recording is in progress)- however, I have not scheduled a recording! When I look at the recorging monitor, it claims to be recording the live TV channel that just crashed (even though this has not been requested!!). However, no recording is actually made and no folder for the recording created. The event viewer shows an error ID 1000 and a message appears relating to .net 2.0 and the recording service. DVD playback is fine.

This happened once or twice at first, but now happens every time, both for my Nova-S+ and freecom type 3 stick.

I'm really confused by this, I can tell you! I will not post more for now, because it is a development box and I may have done something stupid, however, if anyone has seen an issue like this, it would be great if you could let me know if you managed to fix it.

Also, my wife is sitting staring at a blank screen cursing my name ;-)

If you are watching the show in timeshift mode, then this behaviour would have an explanation, since the recording service is actually making a recording (to c:\temp by default, I think... configurable in config app) during timeshift. I guess the recording service might keep recording it until the end of the show even if PVRX2 crashes...

I have no idea why you get the crash, though. If you zip up and post your logs after one of these crashes we might get a clue as to what is happening.

Thanks....
I noticed some kind of error re: lossing the BDA source- I wonder if there is a problem with the drivers.

I also noticed a msg re: an unknown error, but I gather there are a few "known" unknown errors (if you see what I mean)!!

I aslo had this prob when first testing my Nova-S2. Infact I had several probs, out of sync, crashing etc and exactly the behavior you described.

I took the plunge and uninstalled GBPVR (took backup of all the folders+ exported recordings dump) Then I re-installed GBPVR. + Re-installed all the drivers. Things seem to works a lot better now.

Hi,
This happened to me before, and Sub took a look at the logs but couldn't see anything wrong.
Now today, it's suddenly started happening again, I've not updated any of the PVR software or drivers for several weeks now, running plain old XP SP2.
The last time this happened, I re-installed various bits, the reinstall of GBPVR seemed to clear it up, so that will be the first thing I do this time.

I've done a bit more digging and it seems to be a Microsoft issue or Hauppauge issue or a mixture of the two (the crash doesn't happen in Vista). I get similar crashes in wintv too. When I remove the nova-s+ and only use the freeview stick, everything works. Now I REALLY wish I handn't updated those drivers, as it was fine 'til then. From the posts I have found, it seems to be a "randomly fiddle around issue" rather than something cut and dried.

Weirdly, XPSP3 SHOULD have the patch that fixes the issue included......

Nice- I think I might have a few days ripping out my hair over this!

YESSSSSS! Got it! Needed to replace mpeg2data.ax and Psisdecd.dll with old version provided with MCE2005....all is well then! I do not know whether this is a bug in the XP SP3 RC or what. I have the patch (from Hauppauge Finland site forum)- it is totally unofficial and nothing to do with Hauppauge or Microsoft, but it may help people who arrive in Hauppauge hell. It could potentially become an issue for Hauppauge users when SP3 arrives?

I did not need to reinstall GBPVR at all- now all I need to fix is a wee problem with tearing and all will be perfect!

Could the admin bump this into the hardware forum, as it should really be there.
