Splice 2 MPG files together

I think I've seen the answer, I just can't remember where.
I have a DVD that has a video on both sides, part A and part B. It's one movie, but two parts.

I've got the MPG files okay, but I can't remember how to splice them together.

Also, they're 3.6Gb and 3.9Gbs, so it'll be 7.5Gb total. Should I expect any problems streaming that to an MVP?

copy /b file1+file2 file3

"file3" will be the resulting file.

Did I miss something here or is this command just given at the command line and it works in windows natively?

Yeah, it just works from a Windows command line. You will most likely end up with a funky timeline though since the timestamps will be wrong in the second portion of the file.

Once you have the file, I would think you could use retime or mencoder to fix the timestamp error.

I knew there was a possible issue but I couldn't remember what it was. That's why I said "...should be able..."

TMPGEnc should be able to join your MPG files together using the "Merge & Cut" section of it's Mpeg Tools.

I believe VideoRedo will also join MPEG files, but I've never actually tried it.

Or you just use mencoder to paste them together:

mencoder -forceidx -oac copy -ovc copy -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd:tsaf -o pasted.mpg file1.mpg file2.mpg

This pastes file1.mpg and file2.mpg together to pasted.mpg.

Must put in a plug for Videoredo Plus. It will do this and much more. I like free, but some products are really worth paying for. IMHO, this is one of them. Pretty sure they do a trial.
