Ok, here is my scenario.

I currently have two cards, one Hauppuage 150 and one Hauppauge HVR 1600, both being directly connected to the cable jack hooked to Medicom cable. I have only the HVR 1600 running analog right now because I need to get another splitter to get the 150 going. I also have a Mediacom digital box located downstairs that I could use also. I was wondering:

A) how do I get the dual tuners running at the same time on the HVR 1600 so I can pick up HD over the Antenna and then analog cable? (be very detailed on how to do this.)
B)how would I have my schedules direct setup so I can run basically three tuners at the same time?
C) would it be wise to use the Mediacom box for better picture quality into the s-video for my analog, or does that even matter?
D)Any other suggestions how to set these puppies up?

I thought since I didn't find much on this under any other posts and what I did find was scattered, this could be great help to someone searching the forums for help with setup for the HVR-1600 all in one post.

(FYI I have the HVR-1600 that DOES NOT have QAM)

i have a similiar setup 2 150's and 2 1600's and one stb. afaik you cant use the digital tuner and analog at the same time on the 1600. my stb is digital with a difrent lineup then my analog tuners so i need 2 schedules direct lineups one for the digital stb and qam, the other for the analog of the 150's and the analog 1600.

configuring the schedules direct lineups was a bit of work took about a week to get just right. i removed the channels from the stb lineup that the analog tuners are able to pickup. that way most recordings are done on the analog tuners and it doesnt effect the stb as much such as blaster changing channels while someones using it.

in gbpvr config the order your capture devices are listed is the order that recording preferences are given(i think). id make 4 sources 150analog,1600analog,1600-svid from stb,and the digital i guess from an antenna since you cant do qam? u can make 2 sd lineups one for your 2 analog and one for your two digital and then edit the channels of the 1600digital in config app so that it only records channels it actually gets assuming your stb receives the same and more channels.

one other note you may have to reorder your tuner cards location on the pci bus to get your blaster working properly if your planning on using it.

I assume you mean the cable box when saying the "stb" hooked up to the S-video... SO, what your saying is that I can't record three things at once? (2 analog and 1 HD?) I guess I'm getting mixed up on what can and cannot work exactly.

Ok, but I can switch between analog and HD on the Hauppauge 1600 correct? Do you have any details on how you setup the guides to work with that or anything that was hanging you up when you went to do that? If I have a cable cord for analog into the 1600 will i even be able to pick up HD antenna?

You said that it took you a week to get it working properly, and I'd rather not spend too much time if I have to so any advice would be great.

Is this true? I thought you could use both analog and digital at the same time on the HVR-1600. It thought I read somewhere on the wiki a statement to the contrary (maybe not, my memory is not what it used to be.)

I have two HVR-1600's (model 74021, the ones that support QAM). I have no problem using the analog and digital tuners at the same time. I frequently record two analog stations while I am also recording two digital stations.

In the GBPVR config app, you would select the Capture sources tab, and add a source for the analog side of the HVR-1600 and another for the digital side.

For the analog side use the Direct Recording Plugin, then click the Settings button and select the "HVR-1600 (analog)" tuner.

Then add another source using the BDA recording plugin, click the settings button, and select the "HVR-1600 (ATSC)" tuner.

Connect the analog input to your cable feed, and connect the digital input to your outdoor antenna (for HDTV).

When you login to Schedules Direct, you can create two lineups, one for your cable channels and another for your local broadcast channels. Somewhere here in the forum are instructions for setting up each source to use the proper lineup. But I use the "Ixmltv" utility which works well with multiple SD lineups.

You'll need to install a multiplexer for the digital side. DVR-MS is built-in to WinXP, but it's not supported by many programs. The Cyberlink mux seems to have problems keeping the audio and video in sync. I find the ATI mux works well. Again, I think the "Hardware" section of this forum has links to the various multiplexers. If memory serves, you select the multiplexer on the "misc" tab of the GBPVR config app (after installing the mux, of course).

Obviously, this is a gross oversimplification, but I hope it will get you going down the right path. Let me know if you need more info.

im not positive about the analog/digital tuners recording at once from the same card i didnt think you could but maybe you can. the trouble with sd and the multiple lineups was with channels having same name depending on how u get the data it may not be a problem for you. I use the ts mux and havent had problems so far only problem with them for me is they dont play on mvp. youll be ok theres plenty of people willing to help when you have issues

Ok, I messed with it tonight, and still can't get the two going. Can somebody who has a 1600 with analog and digital going at the same time, and uses schedule's direct give me a step by step process. What do I have to do to my local machine to get two schedule's direct rolling with analog and digital(antenna) tuning off of the same cable cord going into the card..
