Sub, can you elaborate on the installation issues that might be seen with 1.2.9? Would be useful info for the "survival guide".

Thanks,
Greg

A couple of users had got a message box with an error code during installation, and found they had to manually set the recording service to 'allow service to interact with desktop' before it would run.

I'm not sure if anyone else will see this though. I suspect it may have been a by-product of a problem with the earlier 1.2.5 install, which was only ever installed by the pre-release test group. It was worth reminding people to backup their config.xml and gbpvr.db3 just in case, even though none of the users lost these important files.

I wont bother creating any survival guide entry until I know if it is going to be a problem.

Well, I can't install it, not even a fresh installation (uninstalled previous version and deleted the gbpvr directory). I get error message code 1721.

Edit: I do get this error, but GBPVR works fine. The error takes place during "updating system" in the installation process.

Are you running a MVP too? I found that I had to set my servers to 0, stop the recording service and task manager kill any pvrx2 and msiexec still running.

Once install is finished, config will start, close it and then open it again to start another MVP server...

And then you should check to see if the service is interacting with desktop.

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

Thanks for the tip. It's working now, but I'll do another install on my clean Vista image sometime soon, and then I'll take your advise into account.

Mine errored at what looked to be the end of the installation on "deleting old files." ("deleting backup files" it might have said.) I closed it, clicked Config to check out the new settings, then it hung when pressing "ok". (Not the first time that's happened lately, though.)

Rebooted, my firewall asked me to accept the new config, and so far everything looks good.

Oops, except for as I type this I started transcoding a .ts to mpeg and ffmpeg.exe popped up with an error box to close.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

I upgraded last night. It was, luckily, uneventful and went smooth. I haven't tried all the features out, but it seems so far nothing is broken. This is what I have tried:

1) Live TV, HD and SD
2) Viewing recordings HD and SD
3) Played some stuff thru video library (xvid, etc.)
4) Music
5) Netlifx plugin (woohoo, it works!)
6) Weather
7) Webcams

I haven't tried recording yet, so I may not be out of the woods yet.

Sorry, I dont have any suggestions. I've done dozens of test installs and upgrades here and never managed to reproduce the problem.

I have installed 1.2.9 on my main computer (WindowsXP) with no problems at all. I have tried to install it on my laptop (Vista) ,which is being used as a client, and I get the "message code 1721" error. If I press OK to the message it seems to "roll back" part of the installation. If I restart PVRX2 Live TV and Recordings seem to work fine, Music ,Internet Radio ,Video, System, and Settings crashes.Running config shows it to be V 1.2.9.
On the third install I decided to press "Ctrl Alt Del" at the error mesage and run Task Manager to close the installation resulting in the installation not "rolling back".
I restarted PVRX2 and evrything seems to work fine.
