I'm waiting for some expert with past MSI installer experience to come along and tell us what the problem is because I've got no ideas.

Not sure if this helps but I downloaded the new version. Upgrading from 10016 as the next version always gave me extra channel listings every time I updated the EPG. I ran the vcredist_x86 just to make sure I was up to date. Install went fine then crashed and GBPVR did a roll back. Lost 10016 so I tried again same thing. Rebooted with an image file back to previous GBPVR version and ran new version without running vcredist_x86, installed fine no lockup. Just thought you might want to know. Brad

I closed it, clicked Config to check out the new settings, then it hung when pressing "ok". (Not the first time that's happened lately, though.) Mine also errors at the deleting old files part. I get no error code. It is the same thing each time.

Since I got quoted, now I feel obligated to write the follow-up. I don't recall if there were other problems, but recording a show in TV Guide would lock up PVRx2. I thought the update-install went fine despite the errors, but apparently not.
I uninstalled via add/remove programs in Windows, deleted the gbpvr folder, then installed the new one from scratch. Seems good so far.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

I have now wasted 3 weekends trying to upgrade from 1.15 to 1.29 on a Vista business installation . Everything that I have tried has failed including deleting registry entries etc. I believe that Vista is somehow remembering some of the original 1.15 code. . Fortunately the Vista system restore works well and I have been able to roll back to 1.15 after going back to a pre 1.29 install point. This results in a working system after 3 reboots. What is slightly strange is that the Windows install program for GBPVR starts and runs for 2 minutes the first time you execute the program after the restore. Two reboots are necessary before the program runs properly.

Sorry about quoting you Deux . I haven't tried recording anything. I also assumed it was working despite the error. I guess I'll try tonight.
sub, the update itself looks nice. Thanks. |
