Hello,

I am a bit of a newb at HTPC work, and mainly relied on everyone's advice before rather than starting/developing something from scratch. As such I have run into issues when setting up the AVerMedia A180 card for tuning QAM.

Based on what I have read on the forums and elsewhere, it is a bit hit or miss doing the tuning, but I have run into problems starting the tuning itself.

I have set the bda.ini file to Tuning Special of = 2, (type 2 drivers). Also I have added Whurlston's qam.ini file of 320 frequencies to search by. Using this qam.ini , I get an error from GBPVR saying "Unable to tune BDA device....."
Immediately after I get a .Net/Windows error stating Incorrect String formet entered and the Config program crashes. I have attached the config files.

However if I use the bundled 133 channel qam.ini that came with GBPVR, the system does not cause any issues, but it doesnt find any channels either. Any suggestions, comments or help is greatly appreciated. I am being driven nuts by trying to get 2 analog, 1 firewire, 1 S-video, and 1 QAM tuner working all at the same time :-)

Thanks in advance.

I think you just have the device number set incorrectly. The A180 is also device #1. The device numbers only increase if you have multiple cards using the same drivers.

The device is set at Device Number 1 in the Config tool. However the type 2 designation is based on the bda.ini file, which is the only one that pulls up in the cards detected on this computer check.

Essentially, which field would I have to change, or is it somewhere more fundamental than just a Config tool change?

Thanks.

In the log you posted, it looks like it is set to device #3.

Looking at your logs again though, I dont think it even gets that far. It seems to be passing "(us-hrc:2)" as a tuning request. Try deleting any .cache files in the c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\bda directory. If that doesnt help, then zip and attach the qam.ini file you're trying to use (I think it has a problem in it).

The us-hrc bit is in the file, but I think that it is supposed to be the commented out part?

Not sure. As requested I have attached a copy of the qam.ini.

Thanks again

You might need to try removing that part of the file .

Hooray, First step completed.

Thanks a lot, The BDA Configuration error is not appearing, and it initializes. It is in the process of scanning. The extra information had to be completely removed. Heres hoping it finds something.

My mistake. I didn't realize that the files could not be commented (at least not at end of line) when I created them.

The Scan completed, but it was unsuccessful in finding a channel. It appears similar to the earlier problem of not getting a lock. The AverTV software was able to translate the QAM channels, so I know the channels are available.

I was hopeful that since the A780 QAM guide worked it might apply to A180 as well. I have attached the config.exe.log. Please let me know if I got my hopes up prematurely.

TIA

Can you also post the config.exe-native.log?
