Using GBPVR gui I can not see files with flv extension even though I have added the extension to the config.xml for video library extensions. Using PVRX2 gui I CAN see flv files.

Second problem is I can not play flv using PVRX2, although I do have ffdshow installed and VLC plays them just fine. My goal is to be able to play back flv files using the GBPVR gui. ...I think codecs are evil

Can you play the FLV files in WMP? You'd need to be able to if you want to play them in PVRX2. (VLC doesnt use Directshow so is not helpful in this case)

just get the flv filter from here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mpc-hc/...g_mirror=0
and you'll be able to play them in media player and hopefully gbpvr and pvrx2 also..Smile
[worked for me..in WMP11]

[register with 'regsvr32 FLVSplitter.ax']

may need MPCVideoDec.ax if you don't have a flash video 1 decoder..[i think ffdshow will do it]

I CAN play flv files using wmp (I had to install some kind of osflvsplitter thingy - tech term Wink). Given that, I am assuming no further codec installs are necessary? I am using wmp11 FWIW. Also I am using GBPVR GUI with nvidia video decoder and overlay (this is the smoothest video playback for my current HTPC system).

Again, I can't even see the flv files in the video library if I use GBPVR gui, but I can see them if I use the PVRX2 gui - strange . Do codecs somehow control what types of files are even visible in the video library? (I thought it was just the video extension property in the config.xml...)

Anyway, using PVRX2 gui I can see the flv file and click play but playback has no video and painfully garbled audio.

I thought if wmp can play the video file, than GBPVR/PVRX2 can play it - but obviously that is not always the case?

This is correct. You wont be able to see them with GBPVR.exe. You should be able to see them in PVRX2.exe assuming you've added 'flv' to the <VideoLibraryExtensions> setting in config.xml.

Post the logs and I'll take a look.

When you play them in WMP, do you see any new tray icons appear? maybe the ffdshow one?

So it is not possible to play flv files using GBPVR gui?

GBPVR.exe and PVRX2.exe are both the GBPVR gui. The old GBPVR.exe user interface is unable to play them, but the new PVRX2.exe user interface is able to. The old GBPVR.exe executable has reached the end of its life, and will no longer be included with GB-PVR releases, so I wont be offering to add 'flv' to the list of extensions it can play.

Yes the ffdshow icon appears when i use wmp to play the flv.
New versions of ffdshow only get used in specific applications by default. WMP is on that list of default applications, so you'll probably find its being used on WMP and working, and not being used in GB-PVR so not working there. If you try playing one of these files then zip and attach the PVRX2.exe-native.log then I should be able to confirm.

Yep, directshow is definitely not picking ffdshow for viewing flv files in GB-PVR, which makes me think you need to add PVRX2.exe to the list of executables in the ffdshow setup.

also check to make sure that flv1 is turned on in ffdshow codecs as well...
i think it's off by default.. [so flash will try to play them]
[confirmed, flv1 is off by default]
although it's disabled on mine and they still play...Smile
also, here's the stuff for making it work in other programs..
[it has deny ability for programs]
