This is really odd and has only just started happening in the last couple of days. I was watching a video and playback just stops and the entire system becomes unresponsive. I've found the logs from the time it happened and they are confusing. Bearing in mind everything has been working perfectlya nd i havent changed anything on my computer (that i can remember!)

Here are the logs:

2008-04-11 00:23:12.328 INFO Log started
2008-04-11 00:23:12.328 VERBOSE getSetting(LoggingLevel)
2008-04-11 00:23:12.328 INFO Logging Level is Debug
2008-04-11 00:23:12.328 VERBOSE getSetting(LoggingForceFlush)
2008-04-11 00:23:12.328 INFO Log flushing enabled
2008-04-11 00:23:12.328 VERBOSE getSetting(OSDTransparency)
2008-04-11 00:23:12.406 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: InterVideo Multiplexer
2008-04-11 00:23:12.406 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: ShowShifter MPEG PS Writer
2008-04-11 00:23:12.421 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG Multiplexer
2008-04-11 00:23:12.437 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: MainConcept (HCW) MPEG Multiplexer-Plus
2008-04-11 00:23:12.453 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: HCW Multiplexer

Hope someone can shed some light why this is happening!

I've no idea what caused it but try running reregisterfilters.bat from the gbpvr menu/folder

If your whole system is hanging, rather than just PVRX2.exe, then it'll most likely be one of your drivers causing it. If it happens when you're either recording or watching tv, then it's probably the drivers for your capture device. Otherwise its probably related to your videocard drivers. Another cause could be some bad memory.

I have had similar issues where the log files just seem to stop an random parts. Recently my GBPVR machine has switched from just locking up and locking the system requireing a reboot via button, to locking up totally and all front case buttons are unresponsive have to do a manual power down on the back with the PSU. I have no idea what that is all about but so infrequent I am not messing with it. Probably has happend 1 a month.

I have manage to reproduce a crash.
From tvguide, watch and then back = crash 4/4 on my system.
p4 mobile 512mb xp sp2 running 1.2.9 VRM9 fullscreen

I use vnc to contact the pvr computer. The VRM9 prevents me from watching the desktop (it happens so, nothing to do with the crash). PVRX2 remains unresponsible to keyboard or IR remote. I can use CTR-ALT-SUPR to open task manager, but pvrx is inmortal. No way to kill it. Only solution found is to reboot system. Nothing visible on the logs (to my eyes).

As Sub said before, if it hangs the pc while you are recording, this is a problem with the drivers for your tv tuner. If the pc hangs when watching a recording, this is a problem with your video drivers.

If you are using EVR/FSE and pvrx2 experiences a problem, it can be difficult to get a response from your pc as pvrx2 has exclusive access to the screen display.

condepelayo: are you saying that you are using VNC to watch recordings? This doesn;t work.

In my case the PC crash means the TV image remains still and can not use mouse or remote control to unlock it.

The locking procedure is easy,
tvguide->watch + back
I think a recording was happening on the background, but my guess it is not important.

No, I am not using VNC to watch recordings, I do use VNC to try to recover the unresponsive system. PVRX2 remains locked after n-times kill task/kill procedure from the task manager (XP).

try a different renderer to see if that helps.
reproduce the problem and then zip and upload the logs (in log folder) from when pvrx2 hangs.

what graphics card do you have?

Seems there is a bug around:

If there is a recording happening, tv guide->watch->back produces still image. No clean exit found (remote control-mouse-task manager). Only possibility restart computer. VMR9 (Full Screen Mode)
Using overlay the lock happens during the watch event, an electronic noise image and system locked.

Setting:
WXP SP2
Intel 82856 graphic card
Hauppauge Nova-TD Dual
VMR9. Overlay tested. Equivalent error happens.
Cyberlink mux
Dscaler

Please, could anybody try the defined sequence (while recording, tvguide->watch->back button) to determine if it is a myproblem, or general problem?

Something more has call my attention. After stopping the recording service, the live tv produces only a black screen (VMR9 Full Screen Mode). Is this relationship reasonble?

Logs corresponding to the VMR9 still image attached.

I do that same sequence of events numerous times a day, and havnt see it myself.

I have seen the dscaler video decoder cause some black screen problems in the past, so I'd try other decoder options to see if it helps. Also try setting your audio renderer back to 'system default'.
