I have subtitles in some of my downloaded .avi's and .mkv's, is there anyone to disable them in video library?

It depends. There is no key press to toggle them, unless it they are SRT subtitles and you have the 'Show SRT Subtitles' option in able in the config app, then pressing the yellow key (Ctrl-Y) will toggle them on/off.

Some video files from the net have hardcoded subtitles as part of the picture - these cant be removed.

Some have separate subtitle files. Usually the directshow filters responsible for autoshowing the subtitles create tray icons that can be used to disable the subtitles (and it'll usually remember it for the future). For example, directvobsub, haali splitter etc.

I'll give the yellow button a try. These aren't in separate files - they are in the movie. However, they in a seperate track (when I do graphedit, it pops out on the separate subtitle track.

The yellow button wont help you if these arent in a separate SRT file. Instead they're being shown by one of the directshow filters you're using.

Look for any system tray icons. Most subtitles sources show one of these which can be used to control the subtitles.
