Hi,

I've been experiencing pvrx2 (1.2.9) hanging intermitently during recording playback when I fast forward over an ad. So far this seems to happen at points in the recording where comskip has marked as an ad and there is a current recording in progress.

Because it doesn't happen all the time I have not been able to figure a way of repeating the problem. It seems to be happening mostly with .mpg files recorded off my PVR150 rather than my DVB-S .dvr-ms files recorded off my second tuner (HVR3000). Because they both use the same decoder (Nvidia Purevideo) for playback I don't think that is the problem. I'm using the "default" audio decoder as recommended by sub.

Windows task manager shows pvrx2 as "Not Responding" and I have to wait about a minute after selecting "End Task" before XP windows comes up with a confirmation message box.

I've looked at the pvrx2 logs and there is nothing unusual. It has my FF command and then nothing.

When I restart pvrx2, there is no "Resume" button for the recording so I presume that it has not been able to save my last watch point in the previous playback.

Has this happened to anyone else and what should I be looking for the next time this happens? What logs should I be looking at other then pvrx2 ones?

PS. Is there a faster way to kill the pvrx2 process when it hangs like this? I can't reboot because of the recording in progress.

I'm not really sure what to suggest, but post the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log next time it happens and I'll see if I can see anything.

Its possibly worth trying a different set of decoders, since these are the most likely things to cause this sort of problem during playback of a recording.

Here is the log of playing the same show but doing a reverse skip from a previous resume point and hanging.

Recording using the PVR150 just finished and another using HVR3000 just started. Can watch the show now happily skipping forwards and back.

Somehow this behaviour seems specific to that tuner being in use.

There is nothing obvious in the logs, but as I said above, it'd be worth trying a different set of decoders - these are the most likely culprit. There could easily be differences in the stream coming from the 150 vs 3000 that these decoders dont like.

New Nvidia driver has 169.21 has been installed and yes I've also recently installed pdvd7 to decode the new Freeview DVB-T H.264.

Mpeg2 playback is still set to Nvidia though. Haven't changed that.

Does your freezes only happen when there is a recording on?

In my case, I am sure that the codec is the culprit as "sub" suggests.

I also have an nVidia driver, but the only hanging I get is when Fast Forwarding in GBPVR (I mean GBPVR as opposed to PVRX2). So it appears this problem has nothing to do with "subs" code. In fact, holding the down arrow key on my remote down or rapidly down arrowing does not cause any problem in GBPVR.

I am using GBPVR because of another issue in PVRX2 which does not occur in GBPVR.

I am using the Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder v6.0.3614, Cyberlink Audio Decoder v6.01.3613 and Cyberlink Audio Renderer v6.00.2812. I am also using the VMR9 Custom Video Renderer and have set forward and back skip to 30 secs.

Maybe we can narrow this problem down with details.

Hopefully this might help others resolve this problem.

Under "Playback" (in the GBPVR/PVRX2 Config) I changed the following:

1. Audio decoder to "MPEG Audio decoder" (from Cyberlink Audio decoder v6.01.3613)
2. Audio Renderer to "Realtek HD Audio output" (from Cyberlink Audio Renderer v6.00.2812)

I did not take the time to see which one (or both caused the problem).
