I've been recently hammering the internet for a one stop shop to watch internet tv from my computer. The truth is it doesn't really exist in any true form yet. I think this direction would be incredible for GBPVR. You can record it or watch it now from these sources. I know we can use the embeded IE control to watch netflix movies. What if we extend that feature further and deeper into the framework. I would love it if we could build an application that uses netflix watchnow, abc, nbc, cbs etc in conjunction with live and recorded tv to create the ultimate tivo killer!

What do you say? Whos in?

UbuStream attempted to do this. On thing that happened was that a lot of the media streams online as Flash, which doesn't transfer to the MVP very well.
Currently Running: 1.4.7

I have played in the past with UBU-stream and External Recorder plugins, which kind of worked via my MVP. The than available channels did not interest me very much, so I did not install it again in my new setup.

EDIT: I was interrupted while responding, so I missed seeing the post from mkenyon2

It would not be for the MVP unless we could strike deals with ABC etc. But for those running computer front ends or casual users who dont even have PVR hardware this could be a great new feature.

To be honest, I'm still yet to see any internet tv that has interested me. I am in New Zealand though, so we're unable access these usually US-only services.

It's catching on like wildfire here. Hopefully it will spread to the world.

Tivo is really capitalizing on this. They are working or have working netflix integration, nbc and abc +rhapsody.

In the UK, ISP's are panicking about vastly increasing usage of bandwidth and with recent price wars are wondering who is going to pay for this bandwidth (that they sold, but are now finding that people expect what they paid for). We live in the dark ages.

I would love to see IPTV Multicast/IGMP support....
We have a lot of IPTV providers in Sweden, and it is becoming more and more common!

All those channels are viewable with VLC (udp multicast/IGMP).

Either natively built in in GB-PVR... or if someone wrote a capture card emulator (Unicast/Multicast-IGMP IPTV BDA driver) for this purpose!...

The streams are generally MPEG2-TS with mpeg2 video or h.264, together with PCM 2.0 or AC3...

In the UK, the main channels are now all available on an internet "on demand" basis for new programmes plus some other archive programmes.

Rated by viewing figures (for terrestrial, not internet) here, you can see that BBC (1 and 2) with iplayer, ITV with catchup, and Channel4 (and channel4+1) with 4OD are the top providers and all provide free (in the UK, doubt those sites work anywhere else) internet streaming via flash or downloads (I think all using the same kontiki distribution system).

I'd love to see a mechanism to browse e.g. the iplayer site from within GB-PVR at some point in the future, and launch the full screen stream or download from there, rather than exit GB-PVR to launch a browser from the desktop.

Although it'd be really unfair to expect this from sub - not having access to these services! Smile

Most of that is there as I stated in my previous post.
