three more HD recordings with no problem.
I have an RMA number but I think I want to play around for another couple days. Ill send it in on Monday i guess? but right now my HD-PVR seems tob e working better.

I now want to focus on this problem that I have:
When I record programs and play them back I have perfect sound
However, when I try to watch live television I have no sound.
any ideas? i have poked around as far as I know how (admittedly not much)

the drivers on SHSPVR are the same as the drivers on the site, so says someone who examined them on brent evan's blog.

so just install the drivers, it is pretty self-evident how to install it in GBPVR but as whurlston pointed out the analogHD.ini is a pretty important file to mess with. the default quality is good, but i would maximize the quality because GBs are cheap when it comes to harddrives.

and i would suggest using firewire to tune instead of IR but i just dont trust IR if i can help it.

otherwise good luck, the HD-PVR is pretty sweet when its working correctly (and somehow i have been watching livetv for 20m right now without incident so i dont know whats up).

I'm having the same issue. I believe it's a problem sub will have to fix when he gets back. I saved the graph produced by GBPVR and checked it and it seems that the audio stream is not being mapped in the demuxer.

So, what do you guys recommend installing? Just the drivers? The whole CD? Drivers from shspvr?

Any other settings, etc., to pay particular attention to?

I'm running XP Pro SP2 and it'll be plugged into a Scientific Atlanta 3250HD STB on Cox cable. I also have an SA 4240 I can try if necessary. My plan is to continue to use the MS beanbag IR blaster unit driven by HIP that I've been using for a while.

Anyway, any advice will be appreciated.
The only things I installed were:

Drivers
IR Blaster
IR application
Scheduler (IR stuff would not work unless I installed it but it could then be uninstalled)

If you are going to use your beanbag, just install the drivers. The IR blaster has issues. If you need additional decoders/encoders you can install TME. I haven't tested it yet to see the differences between it and the ArcSoft direct version but I would assume that it includes the AAC version of the audio decoder which the ArcSoft direct version doesn't have.

Im wondering if the problems aren't more in the USB connection itself? i think i have a USB2.0 card somewhere that i can toss into my computer and try to put the HD-PVR on its own controller. i dont really want to pull my box out though, its a pain.

but you can create the problem with the IR codes through the box, that has to go through the USB connection, and i dont seem to have any problems when the HD-PVR is recording while i am not around and working on the computer and my wireless network adapter, remote IR receiver, and wireless keyboard receiver all use USB ports so there is a fair amount of USB traffic when i am using the computer...

Don't bother, mine is plugged into a 2.0 port and it is the only thing on that controller.

I dont really have much I can do at the moment, but I've read the few threads here and on other forums, and have been talking to Haupauge about some of the problems they've seen since the product started shipping. Hopefully the dust will have settled by the time I get back to NZ, and any changes needed will be clearer in my mind.

To me one aspect sounds like there might be some sort of heat issue causing these highdef recordings to stop mid recording. My hardware is slightly different than the final production model, and doesnt have a case, which may be why I havnt seen the same.

You can tell Hauppauge I'm willing to open mine and mod it with some heatsinks/fans if they will still honor the waranty. Big Grin

Was the only change setting it on it's side?

Are you recording in GBPVR or Arcsoft?
GBPVR v1.4.7
Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz
4 GB RAM, 160GB system drive
640GB recording drive
PVR-500 - analog cable stations
HDHomeRun - ASTC via antenna
nVidia GeForce 8600GT
1 PCH @ 1080p componenent (was NTSC via composite)
1 PCH @ 1080p HDMI (was component)

one change was moving it on its side, but i have had it freeze since them.

the biggest change in my estimation is just letting GBPVR's recording service run in the background and not trying to watch liveTV while recording.

i've got it set to record HD and SD channels all day today (from 11am to 6pm). if it does all of these with a problem I will be tempted to just assume we are talking about a driver issue and would be tempted to not send it back since it will be reasonably functional (even though theoretically they should get the issue fixed for everyone faster if i send it in).

I guess this is a question for sub, i dont know if he will have a chance to answer it before he gets back from vacation: is there a fundamental difference in how the HD-PVR behaves when simply recording v. recording and watching? I would assume not but if there is that could explain it.

if it is an heat dissipation problem I don't understand how it only be overheating while recording and watching and not just recording (if there isn't a difference in what the HD-PVR is doing in both cases).
