Hi all I have a stuttering problem with my mvp it will play for about 4 sec. then stop for 1 sec. I went and read all the posts in Disappointing MPEG2 decoding and tried all the suggestions in there! (replaced the quartz file ) and still no luck This problem does not happen when I watch the recorded shows on my computer, all works fine ! I have been having alot of bad luck, first my dsl modem went bad then my router quit and in all of this trouble, microsoft wanted me to re activate windows because they said my hardware had changed !(yea right ) so I have a lot of new things where the trouble could be. I have a thought it might be my new router but haven't a clew where to look in my setup for the linksys router; its a wireless g broadband with a 4port switch (WRT54G2). Its configured as a gateway (humm) don't understand that but at least I can get on to the internet Any thoughts on fixing the stuttering problem would be greatly appreciated Ps I have recently upgraded to the latest gbpvr but that was in trying to fix the trouble with the mvp stuttering

Compress and upload your GBPVR logs and I will have a look. Since the MVP is a hardware player all the posts related to the PC (ie quartz, renderers etc) are not relevant but a good network is important.

There isn't anything really striking in your logs, so my guess is that something is just limiting your throughput. Is your L: drive on a share? If so try a test from your C: drive and see if it makes a difference.

The other thing I would do is to reset the mvp priority from high, I find it hurts more then it helps. Of course I like to suggest trying mvpmc too, to see if full duplex networking helps.

Thx for the reply Yes my L drive is on a share, will try it from the C: drive.
Of course I like to suggest trying mvpmc too, to see if full duplex networking helps. I don't understand this ? What makes this so hard to trouble shoot for me is I have had 3 major changes that could of changed so many things ! (new router, new modem, service pac 3 )

Then I suggest testing mvpmc (it is an alternative to the Hauppauge MVP client).

Follow steps 1 to 6.

If the mvmc dongle works then great. Keep using it.

As martin said, the codec, quartz renderer etc isn't part of the mix. With MVP it's all about your computer having the speed as well as thoughput on your network.

If your CPU is taxed by a lot of processes all competing for each other, you'll have trouble. Try disablng optional services and auto run programs.

The mvp should run fine with half duplex, so you might have issues with your router config or your tcp/ip settings in windows. Be warned about network tweaks though. Windows defaults should be working fine without tweaks, and some tweaks can actually mess it all up...

Sounds great! I was in device manager and went and had it show hidden devices and boy was I shocked to see that Norton anti virus had its fingers in my networking devices and some of them I don't even have ! and when I tried to uninstall them it wouldn't let me ! Humm.(may be safe mode ) As far as services I have been keeping them to a bare minimum as far as I remember(and start up programs ) . my processor is a P4 2.5 over clocked to 3.1 so I think I have the hp to handle just about everything . but I will check to see if some of them got turned back on by roug programs Again thanks everybody for the helping hand may be some day I will be able to do the same for someone in need PS should I delete the zip file in this thread ? to keep things tidy
