The room mine is in is about 75*. It's sitting under my desk with nothing around it. When I get home, I'm going to give a shot standing on it's side w/ a small fan blowing on it.

My room is about the same. i finally got around to getting the box into work and boxed up so i will ship it back to hauppauge for testing tomorrow. probably later than they wanted to but they will have to deal.

if they try to tell me that they can't reproduce my problem I'm going to ask for a refund. let someone else beta test it.

I'm home for today (leaving again tomorrow -vacation this time).

Anyway, turning on its side w/ a fan seems to keep it going (at least in terms of not quitting after a couple of minutes, however, 3 times I've had to turn it off because it started recording audio only - no video.

Anyone here figure a workaround to the audio only recording issue?

When I first flipped it up, the bottom of the unit was scorching - and it hadn't recorded anything for an entire week - just sat there powered on. Definite heat issues here.

Cool - Just got my RMA number & I'll ship it back on my way out of town. I'm sure I won't have the replacement yet when I get back, but at least something will be going on while I'm away.

I too got my RMA today. I did some more testing and found I could get successful HD recordings with a fan blowing on the device the entire time, but of course that's not something I really want to add to my entertainment center. Smile

I just hope it doesn't take weeks to get another unit.

Reading the post on above linked thread does raise another concern. They are talking about stepping the voltage down on certain batches to address the heat. My concern is they could be undervolting the chip to reduce heat, which could effect performance / long term stability. I hope they explain better the issue before just shooting out new blackboxes.

They just received my RMA'd unit this morning and I've already gotten a notice they're sending one back to me. So it's either a new unit or they're sending mine right back - hopefully the former and not the latter. At least I'm not going to have to wait very long to find out.

Luckily for me, UPS ground only takes one day to get from uniondale, NY to philly so unless something happens to the delivery truck I should have my HD-PVR back today.

according to my records, hauppauge received my package on the 12th and then shipped it out again yesterday the 17th. so basically they had it three business days?

perhaps they are getting very quick at making the repairs?
