Can someone tell me if GBPVR or any PVR software, add-ons, plug-ins, etc will allow me to use the EPG feed from my Dish Network STB without having to subscribe to a third party source like Schedules Direct? I'm already paying for an EPG stream with my Dish subscription, correct?...so is it just a matter of propietary software that Dish uses that keeps me from tapping into it?

If it helps, I was thinking of putting together something like this:

If you are using a Twinhan card connected directly to the dish, I believe you can. If you are running SVideo or Composite from th STB to a capture card then you will need another EPG source. There is an EPG section on the wiki that will tell you your choices.

There was no offical support for the Dish or BEV EPG, but some people have got lucky and it seemed to work (just by using the DVB EPG option).

In a PM...
mzta9 Wrote:Hi BTJ. Thx for replying to my question. Are you sure you are pulling the EPG feed with zap2xml from Dish Network? I thought zap2xml used zap2it which is a different EPG source, right? Another user said I would need a Twinhan card to do it. Can you explain your setup in detail to accomplish this?
Well I'll try as I am going from memory...

1) Go to http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/...untLoad.do and create a free account.

2) After you create your free account, set your location and what channels you want. This is done through the zip code.

3) Follow Step 2 at http://zap2xml.110mb.com/

4) Create a folder on your C:\ drive called zap2xml so you have C:\zap2xml

5) Download zap2xml from http://zap2xml.110mb.com/d.php?f=zap2xml-install.exe and be sure to install it C:\zap2xml

6) Open Notepad and copy/paste the bold line below into it. Be sure to change the E-MAIL and PASSWORD to what you selected...

zap2xml -u YOU@YOU.COM -p PASSWORD -d 10 -o EPG.xml -i icons -F

YOU HAVE TO SAVE THIS FILE AS Update.bat to C:\zap2xml

7) Go to C:\zap2xml and double-click on Update.bat to run it. You will see a black window pop up with white letters and numbers. This will download all the latest listings to C:\zap2xml\EPG.xml

8) Open the CONFIG for GBPVR and go to CAPTURE SOURCES. Select your source then click EDIT.

9) Hit the down arrow for EPG Source and change it to XMLTV Plugin. Then click the SETTINGS button to the right of it.

10) For the file, enter this...

C:\zap2xml\EPG.xml

11) Click OK to close the My Source Name window then click OK to close the Edit Recording Source window and then click OK to close the GB-PVR Configuration window.

Your EPG should now have the channels you selected when you created and modified your zap2it account.

Now to get GBPVR to change channels on the Dish Network box is a different matter which I am still trying to figure out.
