Hi,

I've been running a GBPVR server for a good while and it's been going well. I've tried the client mode, but I've run into a few problems.

I installed GBPVR and set it to Client Mode, Streaming, and set the paths to point to the server.

On the client, I can see the list of recordings and the TV guide, but I can't view anything (likely because they are DVR-MS which I know won't work in Client mode).

However, if I go to the Video or Music Libraries, I see the root of the local machine, not the server. I was under the impression setting the client to streaming would automatically take care of that?

Similarily, the System menu tells me the space on the hard disk drive of the client. I don't know, is that normal?

The whole install seems a bit flaky and slow, which is wierd cause the server is very slick and stable.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

On a client, you can set up paths to any Video or Music libraries you wish - so long as you have the right access permissions - client machines are not restricted to what the server sees. See the directories tab in the config app.

The System menu's space info does refer to the local disk.

Also, you might want to try File Sharing mode...

Hmm, yes that does work. But I was under the impression that the server's Video and Music folders should automatically be made available when in Streaming mode. No?

Thanks

you have to add them on the client machine with links back to the server machine
make sure you have all your folders shared

I believe it only provides the EPG and Recordings, not the video or music lists which are representations of the directory structure.

No. The intention was to only remote the recording functionality and live tv. The user is able to use media directories local to the machine, or shared drives from the server, or mix they prefer (but they need to configure it themselves). People often want different content available on each machine (stuff they dont want the kids watching etc).
