i think you have to re-create those on the local machine...they won't show up from server...
only epg, livetv, and playback is 'client' aware...the rest is assumed to be local..
[plugins, other settings, etc.]
tho plugins could be programmed to be 'client aware' most aren't...
playback codecs, renderer, etc are all local..

this is all on my laptop(client)
when laptop is set to server (even though its not) the only setting i change
the external tasks show up with laptop set to server
when set to client (same machine with external tasks setand loaded on that machine) they dont show

the only setting different is the tick box to say client or server

if you want a custom task to show up on the client, you have to also define it on the according server.

Yep, unfortunately that's the way it is. I found this out on my own and then the board members confirmed it. I don't really know why external tasks have to work like this but I'm sure there's some coding reason why it's like that.

if memory serves me right sub said something about it like "the client uses the DB from the server & the custom tasks are stored in the DB" (that's why you need full access on the prog dir on the server from the client via share)

Tits. Just stumbled on this thread as an answer to a problem I was having - so can anyone suggest a solution to this:

I want a button on the client to send a wake-on-lan to the server. I'm guessing it's no good defining the custom task on the server as a) it's a local action I want to perform on the client and b) the server will be asleep when I want to perform it.

any ideas for a work around?

it's not possible the way you want it. the server has to be awake, else the client has no DB at all (for recordings, tv-guide, etc...) & won't even start. not sure about client started & afterwards setting the server into standby (but i would not try that, it just makes no sense)

the way i solved it is a autoit script (mapped to the power button of the remote) to send the WOL paket & wait till the server has started, then start the gbpvr client. check the client.zip from this post for my workaround http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...stcount=19
