So... I have GBPVR running on a server PC, with a terratec Cinergy 2400i in it. This works perfectly. I'm now trying to connect another PC to it in client mode.

Both machines have no firewall (I'm behind a hardware firewall), both machines have the KLite (full) codec pack, and both have Power DVD installed.

I've tried changing the Decoder settings (from System Default, to cyberlink, to FFdshow) and tried streaming / file sharing options with the same result every time:

On the client: I can play stuff from the library no problem. the guide shows up fine. If I try 'Live TV' the screen goes black for 10 seconds or so, then kicks me back to the menu.

On the server: When I click live TV (on the client) the tuner status changes to 'recording...whatever the show is' for 10 seconds or so, then goes back to sleeping.

I'd attach client / server logs...but I'm not sure which logs are needed, is it the 'native' ones, or the other ones?

Probably need the pvrx2 and recordingservice log files, both exe and exe-native.

You're recording .ts files, but these are not supported in client server mode. You need to be using a mux that produces .mpg files.

Server only shows 'Microsoft DVR-MS', 'TS Mux' and 'Full TS' options for BDA Multiplexer (I assume that's what is meant by 'mux'). I thought Power DVD added a Mux that worked...apparently not. How do I go about getting a Mux that will work with a Client / Server setup?

No it doesnt, PowerCinema does - but its easier to get one from here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=25630

Try the Cyberlink v5.0.0.1307 mux.

I hate to disagree with you given that you wrote the code, but I can play .ts files on a client. I had to switch to file sharing & I have to disconnect my VPN to work if I'm connected, but I can play .ts I've recorded & watch live HDTV on the client. I can't play recordings through XRecord on the client, but that applies to SD as well & has nothing to do with .ts files.

True, it might work in file mode (not stream mode though)

Might this change in future? I'm thinking of HD recordings being in .ts
It's not a worry for me now, but could be in the future. Filesharing brought it's own problems for me (that I can't remember now).
